How Can You Make Oreos Better? Soak Them In Milk & Freeze Them

Arguably one of the best parts of sitting down and enjoying a bowl of cookies and cream ice cream is when you get a chunk of Oreo cookie on your spoon. We spend our time searching through the carton to pick out the scoop with the most cookies, and usually end up disappointed with the ratio. A recipe going viral on TikTok has solved that problem in a way. By soaking Oreos in half and half and freezing them you can experience that cold and delicious bite every moment.

What are frozen Oreos?

These treats are as simple to make as they sound, and TikTok sweet treat creator Ashley Markle, @ashleymarkletreats, posted herself making these as a late night dessert. She describes this treat to be just like the chunks you find in your cookies and cream ice cream, or even like its own mini ice cream sandwich. This recipe has blown up on social media, with everyone wanting to get a taste for themselves. With just two simple ingredients of Oreo cookies and half and half, this recipe elevates the already delicious Oreo.

How do you make frozen Oreos?

First, this recipe starts by taking your Oreo cookies and soaking them in a bowl of half and half for around 30 seconds or until the cookie is soft. Half and half is the perfect milk ingredient to use for this recipe to get the richness and creamy flavor fully into the cookie. Make sure as you soak your cookie you allow it time to get soft and well absorbed, but ensure it is still intact and able to transfer.

Next, you take your soaked cookies and place them on a baking sheet or plate lined with parchment paper and place them in the freezer. Repeat this with however many cookies you are looking to make and stick the pan into the freezer. Allow the cookies to freeze for about an hour, take them out, and you’re ready to enjoy!

Are there any other variations of this recipe?

Would you try soaking an @OREO in half & half and freezing it?? 🤯 In my opinion, it didn’t really come out tasting like ice cream sandwiches, but was still tasty! The cream filling gets frozen and kind of icy, and the soaked chocolate cookie parts DO actually have the same texture as the ice cream sandwich cookie. All in all, 7/10! 🙌 #tiktokfoodie #dessert #oreo #icecreamsandwich #easyrecipe

As a result of the simplicity of these frozen Oreos, you are able to customize them in multiple different ways. Starting with the cookie, if the classic Oreo flavor isn’t your top choice, you can take any other flavor of Oreo, such as Golden Oreos or Mint Oreos, to enhance the flavor easily. You could also include add-ins in the half and half such as chocolate sauce, cinnamon, or vanilla extract to get a different variation of this treat.

TikTok creator @nomtasticfoods recreated this recipe and he thinks to achieve the ‘ice cream sandwich’ like taste it would be best to use Double Stuff Oreos to balance out the cookie and cream ratio.

Whatever way you like to enjoy Oreos the most, including some ideas from this recipe could transport your favorite sandwich cookie to a refreshingly cold treat simply. Eat them straight out of the freezer, crushed up on some ice cream, or anything your heart desires to solidify Oreos in the best cookie ever spot.
