After the unexpected loss of an “old friend” this past weekend, I’m happy to announce that the predecessor of my six-year-old Magic Bullet has arrived!

There are only a few kitchen appliances that I consider practical, worthy investments. The purpose of an appliance is to provide utilitarian value – to ease the tasks of everyday life. Yet too many kitchen gadgets in my household have greater worth as counter-hoggers and dust collectors.

However, the single-serving blender (such as Magic Bullet) is the MVP of my kitchen. It is my go-to tool and most-used appliance: dicing vegetables, pureeing soups, blending smoothies and shakes.

I use it several times a week, especially during the summer.

How to Make Coconut Lime Cashew Smoothie

    Ingredients

  • 1 handful of spinach
  • 1 handful of ice
  • 1/4 cup cashews
  • 1/4 cup coconut flakes
  • 1/3 cup greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon kefir or coconut cream
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup milk (coconut or dairy)
  • 1/2 apple

    Combine all ingredients in blender.

    Pulse to crush ice.

    Blend until smooth.
