Joanna Gaines is best-known for her hit show, Fixer Upper, which showcases how she can magically transform a blank canvas into a designer dream home.  However, this queen can also bake, with her specialty in homemade biscuits.  Oh, and did I mention these buttery fluffs are pure goodness?  The texture of these biscuits is so flaky, and the warmness when they come right out of the oven makes your stomach smile.  The best part: you can eat them with any meal and transform them into awesome creations.  Therefore, I am gracing you with this wonderful recipe.

1.

This recipe can be broken up into a two-day process, but if you choose to do it all in a day then make sure to preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Then whisk together flour, baking powder, and baking soda in a bowl.  Add the butter into the mixture, and use a pastry blender until pieces are even and are the size of peas.

#SpoonTip: If you do not own a pastry blender, using an electric whisk will do the trick. Just be careful not to turn it too high or flour will go everywhere!

2. Add 2 eggs to the mixture, and stir with a wooden spoon (this is important because the mixture won't stick to the wood).  Stir in the buttermilk until the dough has a sticky consistency.  Don't be afraid to add more buttermilk 1 tablespoon at a time if the mixture is too dry.

Cover bowl and refrigerate at least 30 minutes or overnight. I recommend leaving it overnight to break up the process into two days, but either way, the biscuits will turn out delicious!

3. Place rack in the middle of the oven, and preheat to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

4. Put dough on floured work surface.  Dust your hands with flour, and press dough into a 14.5-inch diameter circle.

5. Dust a 2.75-inch round cutter with flour (if you cannot find this size, use what you have, but remember to adjust the baking time). Move the biscuits to the baking sheet, and make sure all of the biscuits are touching.

6. Mix together the remaining egg and 1 tablespoon of buttermilk, and brush it on the tops of the biscuits.

7. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown.

For my biscuits, I made a take on a strawberry shortcake, which was so quick, easy, and delicious: just add strawberries and  homemade whipped cream, and you've got the perfect way to re-purpose them after dinner.

Now go enjoy these homemade biscuits however you want.  Make sure to put on Fixer Upper as you bake to give you the ultimate inspiration.
