Monkey bread is a childhood favorite of mine that always satisfies my insatiable sweet tooth. Despite my dairy allergy, I’ve found that vegan desserts can often be allergen-friendly, while still being indulgent. The biscuit dough for this vegan monkey bread recipe only requires one simple substitution and the caramel sauce can be made with vegan butter. Thanks to Bisquick and Smart Balance, vegan monkey bread has never been easier to make. Not to mention this is a total melt-in-your-mouth, fan favorite recipe.
Vegan Monkey Bread
Ingredients
Instructions
Combine the Bisquick mix, vanilla, and coconut milk in a bowl until thick.
Mix together the cinnamon, sugar, and salt in a large bag.
Break up the biscuit dough into small pieces and throw into the bag of cinnamon sugar. Make sure all of the dough is coated in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
Evenly spread out the finished dough in a bundt pan.
Bake for about 12 minutes until the outside of the dough becomes crunchy.
Bisquick makes this recipe so simple. All I had to do was mix together the Bisquick and the only substitute ingredient—coconut milk—to make the biscuit dough itself. This is a super convenient time-saver as well as an easy vegan recipe.
Another twist I added was the vanilla extract to the biscuit dough in order to make it taste like a truly sweet and decadent dessert. That being said, the addition of caramel sauce does not make it too sweet. This vegan monkey bread recipe fuses sweet and saltiness together perfectly.
#SpoonTip: The only thing about this recipe to be careful of is that the bread does not rise very much. So be sure to check on the bread often so it doesn’t get too brown.
Caramel Sauce
While this topping is totally optional, I highly recommend it because it really brings this dessert to a whole new level. I made a recipe for dairy-free and vegan caramel in another article. Just click on that link to see how I made the sauce, which I then poured directly over the bundt bread.
Even though the caramel topping is dairy-free, it really brings out the sugary taste of the already unbelievable vegan monkey bread.
After cooling, the caramel sauce will sort of soak into the bread and bring out more flavor and moisture. Whether you are 5 or 55, this dessert will bring you back to the good old days of messy and sweet treats.
I highly recommend this recipe to anyone who is dairy-free or vegan because it tastes so decadent, just like any other monkey bread with butter or milk. It is also super easy, and you can do other things while it is baking in the oven. Not to mention, it is a totally indulgent treat with tons of sweet flavor within a soft biscuit.
