The Easiest Applesauce

We probably all grew up eating applesauce. I, for one, was often shipped off to school with my little snack pack of Mott’s. Mott’s is okay, but it is basically the jealous little sibling of homemade applesauce, which is superior in every way. Do yourself a favor and make this. It takes so little effort and I give you permission to eat it at all times of the day and to not share.

Cook time: 20 minutes
Total time: 35 minutes

Servings: About 5 cups

Ingredients:

 3 lb bag McIntosh apples
¼-½ cup brown sugar*
1-2 teaspoons cinnamon*
1 tablespoon lemon juice

*You’ll notice I put ranges here. Applesauce is very customizable, so add sugar and cinnamon to taste. Additionally, feel free to use a different sweetener, and add/omit spices.

Directions:

1. Peel and core the apples. Slice into ½ inch thick slices.

2. Place apple slices in a pot with sugar, lemon, and cinnamon. Add a dash of water. Stir.

3. Cover the pot and cook over medium-low heat for about 20 minutes, or until the apples break down and become very soft.

And that’s it. Too simple. No go make this and try not to eat the whole thing in one sitting. But if you do, I won’t judge you.
