By now, you’ve certainly become familiar with the famous Dubai chocolate bars all over your feed. The delicious pistachio-kataifi mixture combined with sweet milk chocolate is a flavor that’s addictive and can be found in many different forms, as seen in Crumbl’s Dubai chocolate brownie and Starbucks’ Dubai Chocolate Mocha and Dubai Chocolate Matcha. Now, there’s a new form with a chewy, chocolate-covered marshmallow exterior and crunchy pistachio-kataifi interior that you absolutely need to try.
Where does the Dubai chewy cookie come from?
Originating in South Korea, the Dubai chewy cookie recipe came from pastry chef Kim Na-ra in a collaboration with Lee Yun-Min of Mond Cookie, which is a local bakery in the city of Gimpso-Si. Demand for the delicious chewy twist on the Dubai chocolate grew quickly and it wasn’t long before it spread to various other bakeries in Korea, with Starbucks even introducing their own spin on it, as more and more people lined up to try it.
On TikTok, the dessert easily went viral due to its appealing look and taste, something that made it a popular food for typical Korean mukbangs. Korean influencers and idols posted about the treat on their social media pages, causing even more rage to surround the dessert. Before you knew it, the Dubai chewy cookie had spread all over South Korea, and now it has branched out to our feeds here in the United States.
How can you try the Dubai chewy cookie?
While it’s been all over our TikTok FYP and Instagram feeds, it’s hard to find Dubai chewy cookies anywhere in bakeries and pastry shops here in the states. Luckily, the recipe is fairly easy to make and you can create it at home if you long to try it out.
The process of making Dubai chewy cookies is very similar to making typical Dubai chocolate bars, starting by mixing roasted kataifi, pistachio cream, and tahini together. This makes the interior filling of the Dubai chewy cookie, which you will toss in the fridge until it is solidified enough to wrap.
The chewy exterior of the cookie is what trips people up occasionally in their recreation of the recipe, but the trick is to not overcook the marshmallow. Melt the marshmallows on low heat and combine with cocoa powder and milk powder until you get a smooth mixture. Take your filling out of the fridge and wrap it with the stretchy marshmallow before coating it with another layer of cocoa powder. After that, you’re officially done! You have successfully made the viral Dubai chewy cookie and the only thing left to do is dig into the chewy, chocolatey goodness.
