Cheers This Turmeric Ginger Shot to Your Good Health

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Syracuse chapter.

I have always bought these turmeric ginger shots from a juice bar in my hometown. Every time I go I think, “why don’t I ever make these at home?” I have a juicer and all I need are the ingredients, which can be purchased at almost any grocery store. If you have access to a juicer, keep reading because this is the recipe for you!

Turmeric and ginger are both powerful antioxidants. The combination of the two in this shot will provide an abundance of benefits in one easy (slightly spicy) swig.

Instructions

  1. Rebecca Alcosser

Juice ginger and turmeric. (Set your juice to ‘Hard Vegetable’ if it has one.)

  2. Rebecca Alcosser

    Juice lemon.

  3. Rebecca Alcosser

Add cayenne and black pepper after juice is finished, stir, and serve immediately.

These turmeric ginger shots provide great health benefits including: enhancing digestion, increasing metabolism, improving skin, relieving stress, and maintaining balanced blood sugar levels.

In addition to the benefits of turmeric; ginger, lemon, and cayenne pepper also have some powerful effects. The combination has the ability to cleanse, detoxify, and boost your metabolism.

I am not saying that these shots are a magic ‘reverse’ button from the holiday indulgences (why would we want to erase all the yummy x-mas cookies??), but there are some real benefits.

Ginger, lemon, and cayenne contain compounds that help support a healthy metabolism while improving digestion. The three ingredients also contain immune supporting properties, that can help reduce inflammation and pain.

I love making these turmeric ginger shots when I am feeling sluggish, they are an instant pick me up. They also help with nausea, maybe just plug your nose when drinking if the taste bothers you. Give them a try, and let me know what you think!

Cheers to your health in the new year!

I am a Senior Nutrition student at Syracuse University expecting to graduate in May 2017! I have always been a foodie and I can't wait to share my love for food with other college kids like me! My favorite foods are tuna tartare, triple cream brie and cabernet (can't have one without the other), ben & jerrys by the pint, bagels and lox, figs, chicken tikka masala, a real italian panino, and anything matcha...
