Gordon Ramsey is one of the world's most famous chefs and has many amazing recipes. He inspires many people to cook and experiment in the kitchen, including this author. His love and passion for food is like no other, and anyone can see it in his popular shows like Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares. One of my favorite recipes from Gordon, is his beef roast which is a classic dish that you can't go wrong with. Once I found it, I made it my own and fell in love with it. The recipe is simple and flavorful and can make anyone seem like a five star chef.

  • Step 1

First things first, preheat your oven to 375ºF. Next, season your beef with salt and black pepper on all sides. Cut bulb of garlic in half you don't even have to peel it. Optional: Also crush cloves of garlic which allows for more flavor from the garlic.

Pro tip: Set beef out 30 mins prior to cooking to bring to room temperature. This allows for more even cooking and searing of the beef.

  • Step 2

In a hot skillet pan add the oil and then begin searing the beef (if using top round roast start on the fat side which allows the fat to render, or melt, bringing even more flavor to the beef). After two sides are done add the garlic, rosemary, and thyme to to the pan.

  • Step 3

When all sides are seared make a "bed" for the beef to sit on by placing the thyme and rosemary on top of the garlic. Add the butter to the pan, and begin basting (spooning the oil over the beef, do this by slightly tilting the pan to one side) for 30 seconds making sure the entire roast is covered.

  • Step 4

Put the roast into the preheated oven for 10-40 minutes depending on the size of the roast or how you like your beef cooked. If your skillet is not oven safe then move onto a roasting pan keeping the "bed" and pour the oil in the pan over the beef.

  • Step 5

Once cooked, allow beef to rest (as soon as the beef is out of the oven cover in foil and let sit) for at least ten minutes before cutting. After the beef has rested slice into quarter or half inch slices and serve.

Pairings

This beef roast recipe pairs well with many things, I usually serve it with crispy roasted potatoes and sautéed zucchini. However, many options work, such as creamy mashed potatoes, roasted asparagus, sautéed great beans, caramelized onions, or sides of pasta. This recipe can also work great on sandwiches for the day after.
