Original Grain is the Healthy Eatery Syracuse Has Been Waiting For

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Syracuse chapter.

Syracuse could use a few more health conscious restaurants. Thank goodness for Original Grain, the newest addition to downtown  Syracuse’s growing food scene.

The establishment describes itself as having a “hip-casual” atmosphere, and with OG serving up quality, locally sourced cuisine it’s hard not to agree with them.

When you see the menu, there’s so many options to choose from it’s a real challenge to pick just one thing to order. So here are my favorites to get you started.

Stay-Puffed

OG won my heart over with this one. It’s a smoothie bowl made with cocoa, peanut butter, banana, coconut milk, coconut oil, yogurt, coconut flakes, cacao nibs, and Reese’s Puffs. The addition of the world’s greatest cereal makes this bowl an easy 11/10.

Original Poké

Poké is one the trendiest foods at this time in the food world, and OG can satisfy any poké craving with this killer bowl. Choose bamboo rice as a base, and then load it up with salmon sashimi, a medley of fresh vegetables, nori, sesame seeds, and a bangin’ sesame-ginger dressing.

#SpoonTip: add a soft-boiled egg because they make everything better.

Egg Man

Step aside avocado toast, Original Grain has a new toast combo that’s sure to blow you out of the water. They load a slice of multigrain toast with prosciutto, smashed avocado, chia seeds, pea shoots, a perfectly soft-boiled egg and a drizzle of ponzu dressing.

Take that, plain avo toast.

Korean Short Rib Nori Wrap

It’s like a sushi burrito, but better. OG rolls their delicious bamboo rice, Korean short rib, kimchi, cilantro, sesame seeds and amazing house-made ssam sauce, all in a crispy nori wrap.

Now that you’re done reading, go to Original Grain. It’s located downtown at 302 S Salina St, Syracuse, NY 13210.
