Everything You Need to Know About Providence’s New Waffle Shop

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at JWU Providence chapter.

Here’s the Scoop

Providence is in for a treat. Waffle, a new shop on Weybosset Street, will be bringing homemade Liège waffles, locally-sourced ice cream, coffee, and secret recipe hot chocolate to town. Owners, Matt and Tara Celeste, are extremely excited to bring the first official Liège waffle storefront to the Providence-scene. They put a heavy emphasis on sourcing their ingredients locally to support other Rhode Island businesses, and using the highest quality organic ingredients.

The Location

Just a few footsteps away from the Downcity Johnson & Wales campus, Waffle is the perfect spot to cozy up with a cup of coffee and a warm waffle. Whether you’re looking for a quick grab on the way to work, or meeting a study buddy off-campus, Waffle is the spot for you.

The shop features a window seat nook (pictured above), two smaller tables, a lager table, bar-style window seating, and another bar top on the side. The recently renovated, ex-Say Cheese spot can be described as “cozy and cute” with a modern touch.

The Menu

The menu will have some steady favorites – a simple waffle with powdered sugar in a regular and gluten-free option, waffle minis – six little waffles (perfect for sharing), and the wafflewich – ice cream sandwiched between two waffles. If you’re feeling all out, you can add toppings such as Nutella, local maple syrup, house-made whip cream, chocolate ganache, cinnamon sugar, or a scoop of ice cream. While the ice cream flavors will be rotating through seasonal specials, some of the current options include vanilla, chocolate, caramel, peppermint, chocolate peanut butter, maple walnut, and lemon or raspberry sorbet.

They’ll also be serving up seasonal collections. The Winter collection, available now, will include a Chocolate Mint Waffle – a waffle drizzled with chocolate ganache, sprinkled with peppermint candies, topped with a scoop of peppermint ice cream, and finished with house whipped cream, the Cinnamon Bun Waffle – a waffle with house-made cream cheese frosting, dusted with cinnamon and powdered sugar, and finished with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and the Sea Salted Caramel Waffle – a waffle drizzled with gooey caramel sauce, sea salt sprinkle, and topped with whip cream and a scoop of cinnamon ice cream. The gorgeous plates look almost as good as they taste – #InstagramFriendly!

You’ll need the perfect drink to pair with your Liège waffle, and you can choose from hot or iced coffee, an assortment of teas, or the secret-recipe hot chocolate (which comes with a waffle wedge for dunking!!). The coffee comes from Parlor, in Brooklyn, and is available in mugs, or to-go cups. They also sell original ‘Waffle’ t-shirts, for $9.

The Grand Opening

The moment you’ve all been waiting for…the Waffle Grand Opening will be this upcoming Friday, January 26th from 6pm – 10pm. Save the date!

*regular hours*

After the grand opening, Waffle will be continuing with their normal hours, Monday-Friday 8am to 4pm, Friday nights 7-11pm, Saturday 8am-2pm, and Saturday nights 7-11pm.
