Being vegan isn’t always easy when it comes to eating out, especially if you’re with meat-eating friends who want to grab a sandwich at a fast food chain after class and you don’t want to be that “annoying vegan.” In general, being vegan isn’t easy and it takes a lot of work. Aside from Wendy’s roasting competitors and haters on their Twitter account, there is a rather impressive Wendy’s vegan menu that you should know about. Wendy’s isn’t the only fast food chain to have vegan options but they do have several tasty, vegan-friendly menu items.
Sides
Fries
Who needs a greasy cheeseburger when you can have salty, crispy fries? You may be thinking right now that all fries would be vegan and cooked this way, but some popular fast food fries are made with flavoring that comes form milk. Wendy’s natural cut fries are cooked in vegetable oil, which makes them vegan-friendly. Everyone can enjoy this crispy and comforting food.
#SpoonTip: The fries may be cooked in the same oil as items that contain fish and wheat.
Baked Potato
Everyone deserves a fluffy baked potato every now and again. If you’re not looking for the deep fried French fries, a Wendy’s baked potato might be the next best thing. Typically, these potatoes come with sour cream, but you can ask for your baked potato with only chives.
Apple slices
An apple a day keeps the doctor away, right? While you can’t make a meal out of Wendy’s apple slices, they’re a healthier alternative to French fries.
Salads
Most of Wendy’s crisp salads come with chicken on them, but they’re assembled when you order, so there are many salads that you can easily make vegan by asking them to omit the chicken and other animal products.
#SpoonTip: There are several vegan salad dressings available at Wendy’s, including the Light Spicy Asian Chili Vinaigrette, Pomegranate Vinaigrette Dressing, and the Light Balsamic Vinaigrette.
Garden Side Salad
This salad is a basic garden salad full of veggies. They do add cheese on top so you need to ask them to leave it off.
Strawberry Mango Chicken Salad
The Strawberry Mango Chicken Salad has mangos, strawberries, and lettuce. You do need to ask for no chicken or cheese and no sunflower seeds (because they’re roasted with honey), but the fruit on top keeps it flavorful.
Apple Pecan Chicken Salad
This salad has apples and dried cranberries on it after you’ve made it vegan. Again, you need to ask for them to not add the chicken or cheese and no pecans, because they’re roasted with honey on them. The knockout apple and cranberry combo makes up for the lack of other toppings.
Power Mediterranean Chicken Salad
The Power Mediterranean Salad is protein-packed, even without the chicken and cheese. This salad has hummus, sundried tomatoes, and quinoa. The light balsamic vinaigrette would go nicely with this salad.
Sandwiches
Veggie Sandwich
Wendy’s has a veggie sandwich that’s pretty much their basic sandwich without meat. It has all the typical veggies and toppings on their classic bun. It’s basically a salad that you eat with your hands.
The Frywich
Finally, if you’re feeling really adventurous, there’s the Frywich. This is the plain veggie sandwich, which is listed above, but the natural cut fries are in the middle of it. This sandwich is calling my name.
Now you can enjoy some classic fast food with your meat eating friends by ordering off the Wendy’s vegan menu. Whatever you do, always double check their menu online before ordering because some of the foods that seem vegan are made with milk products or honey.
