7 Over-the-Top Combinations You Should Order at Oatmeals

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Princeton chapter.

I’m not afraid to admit it — I love oatmeal. During the school year, I eat it almost every day in the dining hall. It’s the definition of comfort food — warm, wholesome, and open to hundreds of combinations. So when I heard that there was a restaurant entirely dedicated to oatmeal near Washington Square Park, I knew I had to check it out. The menu is huge, with every possible combination of oatmeal, fruit, and other toppings you could imagine. However, some of the combinations truly stood out.

1. Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin pie is no longer just a treat for the holidays. This order, with pumpkin puree, pecans, and cinnamon, makes every day feel like Thanksgiving. Top it with whipped cream if you really feel like celebrating.

2. Physique 57

The classic combination of peanut butter, bananas, and bacon makes this bowl a comfort food classic. Who would’ve thought that bacon and peanut butter would make such a good combination?

4. Sun-Dried Tomato, Pesto, and Parmesan

Oatmeals doesn’t just do sweet; make sure to try its savory combinations as well. This bowl tastes just like your favorite bowl of pasta, but with more protein and fiber from the steel cut oats.

5. The Cheese Plate

I’m never one to turn down cheese in any form, and this bowl is no exception. The oats are mixed with Manchego and topped with dried figs and walnuts, making this the perfect sweet-and-salty combination.

6. Salted Caramel Apple

One section of the menu is called “Happy Endings,” in honor of the massage parlor downstairs from the 3rd Street location, and it is made up of the most indulgent combinations. This bowl truly belongs in the dessert section of the menu for its cinnamon-roasted apples, whipped cream, and caramel drizzle.

7. S’mores

The city is decidedly lacking in bonfires or places to camp, understandably. However, this combination of dark chocolate chips, marshmallows, and graham cracker crumbles can make any morning feel like a summer night in the woods.
