It may be the middle of October, but in California, summer weather lasts until November at the earliest — and Erewhon is taking full advantage of the sunshine, producing their newest Tonic Bar collaboration with pop singer Zara Larsson: the Midnight Sun Smoothie.
Over the past few years, Zara Larsson has established herself as the queen of summer through both the reemergence of popular songs like “Symphony” and “Lush Life” alongside new hits like “Stateside” and “Midnight Sun.”
Larsson is the newest addition to Erewhon’s long track record of collaborating with up-and-coming artists and celebrities to make promotional smoothies: Hailey Bieber’s iconic Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie, Olivia Rodrigo’s Good 4 Ur GUTS Smoothie, and Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet Smoothie are a few that come to mind.
Erewhon announced the Midnight Sun Smoothie in an Instagram post on October 8. “Inspired by her album, Midnight Sun, this free-spirited blend captures the essence of an eternal summer, layering organic fruits and organic coconut cream into a smoothie reminiscent of a tropical sunset,” said the caption.
The smoothie, which is a colorful blend full of vibrant swirls of pink, blue, and yellow, is visibly channeling the advertised spirit of a tropical sunset. Larsson herself said the finished product looks like “a beautiful sunset sky” in a video of her putting the smoothie together.
Ingredients in the all-organic smoothie include mango, strawberries, banana, pineapple, blueberries, carrot juice, coconut milk, vanilla, grass fed collagen, A2 whey protein, and ROAR Organic Dragon Fruit Punch. The smoothie gets its bright colors from dragonfruit and Blue Majik spirulina.
Within the first week of its debut, many creators on social media have already rushed to Erewhon to try the smoothie for themselves — and the flavor reviews are overwhelmingly positive, despite the high price point of $21.
Australian content creator Ramon Israel (@ramonisrael on TikTok) posted a video of him being the “first Aussie to try Zara Larsson’s Erewhon smoothie,” and his reaction after the first sip says it all.
“Oh my gosh, that is refreshing,” he said. “Dare I say this is better than the Hailey Bieber smoothie…it’s sweet, tropical, fresh…ten out of ten for me. Zara Larsson, you did your thing.”
Bay Area-based creator Sarah Naini (@sarahsundrop on TikTok) also tried the new Midnight Sun Smoothie for the first time. “Honestly, I feel like this smoothie is so Zara, with all the fun, vibrant colors!” she said.
A creator named Seth (@simplysethh on TikTok) paid $42 for two smoothies, but he clearly thought it was worth the money. “Yum, wait a second!” he said after his first sip.
Aside from receiving positive feedback for its flavors, the Midnight Sun Smoothie is also donating some of its proceeds to the Malala Fund — a nonprofit founded by Nobel laureate winner Malala Yousafzai and her father in 2013 to support every girl’s right to 12 years of free quality education.
While the exact percentage of each sale going to Malala Fund has not been shared publicly, some comments on Erewhon’s Instagram post have speculated that around $3 per smoothie will be donated, based on previous donation patterns for other celebrity collaboration smoothies.
Zara Larsson’s Midnight Sun Smoothie will be available at all Erewhon locations in Southern California through November 7. The smoothie will also be available in Manhattan solely via Uber Eats or Postmates.
