Why Is TikTok So Obsessed With Henrik Christiansen?

If you’ve been tuning into the 2024 Paris Olympics then you may be familiar with the “Olympic Muffin Man,” also known as Henrik Christiansen. Christiansen is a swimmer representing Norway at this year’s Olympics and while he hasn’t won gold just yet, but he is definitely winning the hearts of social media users everywhere. Christiansen has grown a following of over 130 thousand on TikTok since going on a posting spree about his love for the double chocolate muffins served at the Olympic Village. In his videos, Christiansen can be seen looking out into the French skyline with a muffin in hand, walking back with handfuls from the village, hiding them in his drawers, and even crowning it as superior to the croissant. Many people are left wondering what has this Olympian so obsessed with a double chocolate muffin.

Where can we get this delicious muffin?

Unless you’re willing to hop on a plane to Paris then this muffin might be out of your reach, but after Christiansen’s viral series investigators online have been able to track down the origin of this sweet treat.

This muffin comes from Coup de pates, a food distributor located in France, where it reigns the title of the “Maxi Intense Chocolate Chip Muffin.” With a gooey chocolate core surrounded by a thick layer of moist cake, this dessert has been crowned gold by Christiansen and his fellow Olympians.

Can I DIY these muffins?

Since going viral, Christiansen has sparked inspiration amongst viewers in their attempt to make an at-home recipe for their own double chocolate muffins.

One content creator has made it their mission to recreate the chocolatey treat. @ibakemistakes recreated the muffins down to using a similar paper to wrap the muffins. Many flooded her comment section with their inputs on how to nail the recipe, but one person thought “these look exactly like them, all the rest are too dry or not dark enough, you clearly nailed it!”

Another recipe is from The Busy Baker created her recipe for the “Best Ever Double Chocolate Muffins” which social media users have said comes pretty close to the delectable ones across the country. Topped with chunky chocolate chips, and cooked perfectly with a moist brownie-like core, you can bring these Olympic muffins home to you while you watch your favorite athletes compete for the gold.

What other foods are available to athletes in the Olympic Village?

In another one of Christiansen’s viral TikTok’s, he documents his journey taste-testing a variety of meals served within the Olympic Village.

He starts off showing viewers a plate full of pesto pasta and a pork skewer but rates it an average of 7 out of 10. He moves onto his favorite “Choccy muffin” which he calls insane as he gives it a whopping 11 out of 10 for its intense flavor and irresistible gooeyness. After dessert, he moves onto some shrimp dumplings and chicken gyoza which he gives an 8 out of 10 for theory crispy outside layer and flavorful fish.
