Milk Bar Collabs With Converse For the Sweetest Shoes Of The Summer

Milk Bar, one of the chicest bakeries in New York City (and beyond), is celebrating its “Sweet 16” with a delightful new Converse line. The bakery has been open since 2008, getting its start with a variety of unique treats, such as Cereal Milk Ice Cream and Compost Cookies. It only makes sense that a brand as focused on aesthetics as this one would branch out into the fashion world, and this exciting new footwear is sure to not disappoint.

Why Converse?

Milk Bar’s owner, Christina Tosi, is the real inspiration behind this collaboration. Tosi is an icon in the food world, unironically a girl boss in her own right. The first Milk Bar was opened by her and her friend and business partner, David Chang, off of his business, Momofuku. When she left the fine dining world that she had made a name for herself in, they worked together to come up with this unique brand. Now, the business has spread nationwide.

In an interview with Food & Wine, Tosi said, “I have been wearing High Top Chucks since I was a teenager. They are the forever footwear staple as I find my way, embracing creativity and individuality in my life and kitchen… Teaming up with Converse to create a collection of high tops for anyone and everyone to design… is a true pinch-me moment.” Red Converse high tops have reportedly been a part of her chef uniform since the beginning.

What do the shoes look like?

The shoe options themselves are truly drool-worthy. Customers are able to completely design their own pair, a continuation of the “Converse by You” series. The base designs include signature cookies circling the Converse logo, a cursive “milk” along the side, and even a shoe completely decked out in bright-pink graphics inspired by the Milk Bar brand. My personal favorite option is the shoe coated in rainbow sprinkles.

When designing each individual aspect of the shoe yourself, there’s plenty of unique touches that show the time and effort that went into creating these. For example, the base colors are changed to specific flavors Milk Bar has in stores, like Cereal Milk, Cookies No Cream, and Marshmallow Goo. The shoes come in both kids and adult sizes. While they cost a pretty penny, these shoes are a perfect statement piece for any foodie’s wardrobe.
