You’d Feel So Much Better If You Were Drinking Enough Water

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Elon chapter.

We all know that fresh water is essential to survival. In fact, our bodies are made up of 60% percent of it. But did you know there are a lot of added benefits to drinking water? These awesome attributes of water will have you drinking it 24/7.

Clear Skin

Drinking water clears your skin of excess dirt that causes those nasty breakouts and reduces the amount of oil on the surface of your skin. Drinking water throughout the day allows your body to sweat, which flushes out your pores and cleanses your skin. Not to mention that water acts as a natural moisturizer for your skin, giving it that natural glow. So, before you start buying numerous acne treatments and creams, start by increasing your water consumption. Your skin will thank you!

Water lubricates your inner organs, causing your body to operate more smoothly and with less energy. This saves your body more energy that can be put towards your everyday activities. Water also carries the nutrients from your food to your cells via your bloodstream, so the more water you consume, the quicker your body absorbs those nutrients. Tiredness is your body’s first sign of  dehydration, so drink up.

Water flushes out toxins from our bodies and replaces them with nutrients. It plays a huge role in digestion, and helps your organs get rid of waste. Water also takes a lot of pressure off of your kidneys and liver, which serve as your body’s back-up plans for detoxifying when it doesn’t receive enough water. Bottom-line: drink plenty of fluids after a meal.

Trying to get rid of that freshman fifteen? Replace soda and sugary coffees with a glass of water. It serves as an appetite suppressant, which prevents you from chowing down. Also, plain old H2O has zero calories, whereas sugary sodas, juices, and coffees are loaded with them. Choosing water over sugary drinks is a decision that you can feel great about.

Other than the fact that you need it to survive, there are so many reasons why water should be your go-to beverage. If you want to look and feel great (who doesn’t?) then the answer is straight H2O. Your body will be forever grateful to you.
