As Super Bowl Sunday quickly approaches, football fans and foodies alike are gearing up for one of the biggest nights in American sports. While some are planning watch party menus, travelling to New Orleans for the Big Game, or making cocktails for “the Swiftie Bowl,” many food brands are teasing ad slots and campaigns for this year’s Super Bowl commercial, including Oikos. The high-protein yogurt brand is showing up strong for its sixth straight Super Bowl appearance, this time proving that strength can come from places you never expected – even yourself. Spoon University caught up with multi-nominated actress Juno Temple, who stars in this year’s Oikos ad, ahead of her Super Bowl debut on February 9 and learned that there’s more to being strong than what meets the eye.
Known for playing beloved WAG turned boss-bitch Keeley Jones on Ted Lasso, Temple’s performance on the Apple TV series resonated with audiences, showcasing a blend of empathy and strength that has become her trademark. “There’s no point in playing somebody that you don’t empathize with, because I don’t think it’ll be real,” Temple told Spoon University in a recent interview.
According to Temple, every character — whether it’s playing Jones on Ted Lasso, Dorothy “Dot” Lyon on Fargo, or even herself in an upcoming Super Bowl ad with Myles Garrett — presents its own set of challenges. “Ultimately, you’re inhabiting somebody who is, in some world, a version of somebody’s mother, somebody’s sister, somebody’s best friend, somebody’s something, and that is a real honor,” says Temple. “I never want to mess that up.”
When presented with the idea of acting as herself in a Super Bowl commercial for Oikos, Temple says it “kind of blew her mind.” While she’s currently based in Los Angeles, the British actress — whose version of “football” in England is quite different than our American football — is “aware that a Super Bowl commercial is a big deal.”
In the 2025 Oikos ad, titled “Surprising Strength,” Temple teams up with pro football star Myles Garrett for a humorous and action-packed race through an airport as a last-minute gate change throws a wrench in the pair’s travel plans. Luckily, as America’s number one#1 high-protein yogurt brand, Oikos’ delicious and nutritious snacks help support Temple’s strength and ultimately saves the day.
“The whole idea of being stronger than meets the eye is something that made sense to a lot of characters that I’ve played, and it’s how I like to be in the world,” says Temple. “The strength of that message through this commercial just felt really exciting, and I was excited at the idea of getting to try and lift Myles [Garrett] for real.”
While the stunts were impeccable (”I would be lying if I told you I actually could do that for real,” she joked), the message of strength as power — especially Temple’s power — shines through in the 30-second Super Bowl ad.
“Food is complicated in the acting world,” admits Temple, who says food can feel like both a friend and an enemy. To the award-winning actress, though, food is fuel. She loves Brazil nuts, almonds, and cashews on set (“I’ve played too many characters where, if I spill [on costumes], it’s really a disaster”), and is obsessed with Oikos Triple Zero, which she says tastes like a strawberry milkshake and makes her feel like a little kid.
“Whatever your relationship is with food, it’s important to remember it is also fuel to make you as strong and as powerful as you can be” — which Temple demonstrates as she snacks on Oikos before lifting the six-foot muscled football player in the ad.
“This campaign is bold, unexpected, and celebrates a message I hold close to my heart – that strength can come from the most surprising places,” beamed the actress. “It’s always a thrill to showcase empowered, strong women who rise to the occasion, and this ad has an element of girl power that isn’t overkill.”
Beyond the notion of a Super Bowl ad (“it’s a huge deal!”) and filming in an actual airport for the first (“It was like an ode to the 90s”), Temple is excited to back Oikos products, which she tried prior to the partnership. “It’s just a huge win all around, and honestly I’m still wrapping my head around the fact that I’m going to be in a Super Bowl commercial,” says Temple as she covers her face smiling. “I haven’t really thought it through, it’s just so cool.”
Temple admits that she’s never hosted her own Super Bowl party, but has attended several — including watch parties for friends and co-stars in other game day commercials — and loves snacking on chips and dip during the game, and perhaps imbibing with some tequila and a Corona with lime. While her British upbringing hasn’t influenced her understanding that the Super Bowl is “a big f-cking deal” in America, Temple does recognize that game day food — and the strength that fuel brings — is power both on and off the football field and the big screen.
