Ketchup Ice Cream Was Invented Solely to Welcome Ed Sheeran Back to Ireland

Everyone has that one friend that puts ketchup on everything—from traditional burgers, French fries, and eggs, to not-so-normal foods like mac ‘n cheese, pizza, crackers, and fruit. Maybe you are that friend, no shame. If you are, you’re going to love this new flavor creation: Heinz ketchup ice cream.

Gelati, an ice cream shop in Ireland, is responsible for coming up with this flavor, and if you’re wondering wtf why? They have a good reason. Gelati wants to welcome Ed Sheeran to Ireland and to their ice cream shop. Seeing that Sheeran is currently on tour in Ireland and his favorite condiment is Heinz Ketchup (he even has a tattoo of their logo on his arm), they launched the new flavor.

“We @gelati_icecream decided to welcome Ed Sheeran back to Ireland by creating his favourite flavour: Tomato ketchup!! Drop in for a free Ketchup cone if attending the concert,” the shop wrote on Instagram.

Gelati’s owner, Michael O’Dowd told PEOPLE Food that making the new flavor was no easy task, particularly because the added salt and sugar posed difficult to freeze. But after a few attempts, they finally got it right. There is legit ketchup in the “secret” base recipe mixed with fresh local milk, and you can get your cone topped with the condiment as well it seems.

PEOPLE Food reports that Sheeran has yet to stop in for a taste of the ketchup ice cream, but fingers are crossed for the shop and the concert goers brave enough to try it that he does soon.
