The last week of November is always busy. We have Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday. Today, November 29th is Giving Tuesday — a global day of giving. It’s a great way to get involved in the community and kick off the season of giving. Last year, over 70 countries took part and raised $116,000,000. Although there are many charities and organizations to get involved, we curated a list of national food charities dedicated to fighting hunger and food education. Let’s make that donation amount even higher this year.
Meals on Wheels America
Meals on Wheels delivers warm, nutritious meals to homebound senior citizens who can no longer cook for themselves. The organization supports 5,000 community-based senior nutrition programs across the country.
Feeding America
Feeding America is a nationwide hunger relief organization. For every $1 donated, the network distributes 22 meals to people facing huger.
World Central Kitchen
Chef José Andres began this international organization to use the power of food to strengthen economies and empower communities. World Central Kitchen advocates for health, education, and jobs — such as food safety and sanitation training.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand
Donations to Alex’s Lemonade Stand go toward research for new treatments of childhood cancer. Donations made on Giving Tuesday go toward its Travel for Care program that provides gas cards, air travel, hotel accommodations, parking vouchers and restaurant gift cards to families with children in treatment for cancer.
Feed the Children
This NGO works to end childhood hunger. Feed the Children takes action toward proving children and families in need with clean water, food, clothing, medical care and education.
Edible Schoolyard
Edible Schoolyard seeks to provide food education to schools across America so that students make informed decisions about healthy food choices. It envisions gardening and kitchens as classrooms for students.
ROC Action
Restaurant Opportunities Centers advocates to increase minimum wage for restaurant workers across America. They do this through ballot initiatives, lobbying and electoral activities.
