8 Simple Avocado Recipes Inspired by Famous Quotes

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Tulane chapter.

While some may assume that recipes simply come about, I’d argue that most recipes find their inspiration somewhere. Looking at these eight avocado recipes, I couldn’t help but think that they each found their origin in a popular quote. Whether the quote be from a Disney movie or popular actor, they all find common ground in this wonderful green fruit.

1. “Keep Calm and Carry On”

With a few simple ingredients including avocado, bread, some seasoning, and a squeeze of lime juice, you have the tastiest breakfast–avocado toast. Now you can make a satisfying meal that lets you sleep in for those extra five minutes you so desperately need.

2.  “The most important rule of beauty is, who cares?”—Tina Fey

Queen Tina says it perfectly: who cares what you do, even if it makes you look like you just shoved your face into a huge bowl of guac?  Mix a little bit of plain yogurt and a dash of honey with half an avocado and you have a relaxing and rejuvenating face mask. Leave it on for about 15 minutes, then rinse with soap and water to see that silky smooth skin.

3.  “Her hair actually glows!” – Flynn Ryder from Tangled

If you want all the boys to wonder why your hair glows like Rapunzel’s, try an avocado hair mask.  Mashed up avocado with a dollop of plain Greek yogurt and an egg yolk make for a conditioning treatment that is avo-mazing! Leave it in wet hair for 15 minutes, then wash normally with shampoo and conditioner. Beyoncé better watch out because this makes everyone Becky with the good hair.

4. “Baby, you get me all egg-cited.”

If you grew up with your grandma making you egg-in-a-hole on Sunday mornings, this’ll make you feel very nostalgic. Just by switching out the bread for an avocado, you can easily make that hearty breakfast you’ve been craving.  Crack an egg into the hole, add some seasoning, and bake at 350ºF for 12-15 minutes. Feel free to add some cheddar cheese to jazz it up a bit.

5. “Guacamole-ole-ole-ole” – Austin Powers in Goldmember

When you crave the wonder of Chipotle and don’t want to spend the money, just make some guac. All you need is an avocado and pre-made salsa. Cut the avocado in half, scoop out that green goodness, add it to a bowl with the salsa, and there you have it–Chipotle-worthy guacamole. If you feel extra determined, please try this recipe for some truly homemade guacamole.

6. “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” – Leonardo da Vinci

Want a snack without the guilty pleasure of something from the snack aisle? Just by adding some salt and pepper to a plain avocado, you’ve got a healthy snack without all the hassle.

7. “I mean, what could possibly be worse than mayonnaise?” – Jennifer E. Smith

Because of its creamy texture, avocado and a little dollop of plain Greek yogurt make for a delicious and healthy substitute for mayonnaise, which many people find slightly unappealing. You can use this “avonnaise” with virtually everything from sandwiches to chicken salad.

8. “It’s about the cheese!” – Terry Crews

While amazing in its true form, Easy Mac can get a little repetitive. Make the mac according to the instructions, add a squeeze of lime juice, salt and pepper, ¼ of a mashed avocado, and you’ve got an easy upgrade. Even though it does sound a bit strange, this meal is actually really tasty and more filling.

The connections are clear between these quotes and all of the wonders you can do with this amazing food. Hopefully these recipes will get you even more excited to try some new avocado eats.
