Avocado toast has become one of the most sought after breakfast meals. Every avocado toast is unique in its own way, and it is interesting to see how each restaurant puts their own spin on something that seems so simple. If you have never tried avocado toast, you are seriously missing out.

Being from California where avocados are everywhere, I needed to set out to find the perfect avocado toast in Ann Arbor. Who would have thought that I would find such incredible avocado toast in the Midwest?

1. Roos Roast

Roos Roast is an adorable, newly opened café on Liberty that has the best avocado toast I have ever tasted. The avocado smash definitely takes the win for the best avocado toast in Ann Arbor with an abundance of flavor, as well as a variety of optional add-ons such as a semi-hard boiled egg, prosciutto, cinnamon sugar, and more.

It comes with fresh avocado, a plethora of spices, and the best part? Goat cheese on the bottom. Let me tell ya, this avocado toast is a must-try and pairs perfectly with Roos Roast's Honey Vanilla Latte.

2. Fred's

bacon, avocado, bread, toast, egg

The avocado toast from Fred's comes in second with a simple, yet heavenly mix of flavors. Although the toast may appear somewhat boring, its combination of both savory and sweet flavors make it unique and delicious.

Two warm, thick slices of sourdough are topped with sliced avocado, lots of spices, and pickled onions. Adding an egg on top is recommended (as always), but this avocado toast is amazing either way.

3. Sava's

This avocado toast comes with smashed avocado, tomato slices, chili flakes, and soft poached eggs. The tomato slices are a delicious addition, as are the eggs. Additionally, you definitely get more bang for your buck with the amount of avocado that comes on this one. You can't really go wrong with this classic avocado toast, and it is definitely the most photogenic out of all of them.

4. Afternoon Delight

bread, sandwich, avocado

Afternoon Delight's avocado toast was appetizing, but a little disappointing due to its lack of flavor. It could be much improved with a little less sprouts and more spices to add some spunk to the avocado. However, it does come on a delectable english muffin topped with fresh tomatoes that lift this avocado toast up. Not to mention how darn pretty it looks.

5. Avalon Café

Avalon Café just opened this December, and thus, a new avocado toast came to town. This toast is topped with tahini, cucumber, lime, chili flakes, and olive oil. Although this toast is very unique, avocado toast with tahini and cucumber is definitely an acquired taste that might not be your cup of tea. However, Avalon still knocks it out of the park with their insanely delicious bread that is baked fresh daily.

Evidently, Ann Arbor has a large variety avocado toast to choose from depending on your preferences. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that amazing avocado toast does exist outside of California. Although all of these avocado toast's are worth trying, Roos Roast's toast definitely deserves the number one spot.
