It’s understandable that some of us get stressed out. You might have a paper due Monday, an internship you need to be at 10 hours a week, a big game coming up, mom is nagging you. It’s life. But for now, here are 12 ways to practice self-care when politics are overwhelming you.
1. Step Away From Technology
Remove yourself from social media. Take a little break and breathe. Sit down with a cup of tea and relax, phone and laptop-free.
2. Carry a Notebook
See something cool or feeling some type of way? Write it down. Get lost in your own world and concentrate on the words you’re writing.
3. Read a Book
If this life is giving you a headache, why not live in another for a little while?
4. Color Outside the Lines
Adult coloring books are a thing. Go crazy and let your creativity take over.
5. Meditate
Sit in a quite room and concentrate on your body and your breathing. Don’t dwell on what’s surrounding you. Just be in the moment.
6. Me Time
What do you like to do? Treat yourself to some ‘me time‘ and do your favorite activities!
7. Take a Bath
What could be better than a glass of wine and a warm bath? Add a bath bomb, bath salts, candles, and music for a DIY luxurious bath.
8. People Watch
Sometimes making up stories in your head about a random strangers’ life can be fun. We all have our own stories. Try it.
9. Sweat It Out
Go for a run, do yoga, hit the gym. Release those endorphins.
10. Draw
Draw lines, patterns, shapes — anything you want. Imagination is infinite. Let the pencil take control.
11. Sing
Sing your heart out. Scream. Shout. Let it go. You might surprise Celine Dion herself.
12. Share the Love
You never know how other people are feeling. Don’t be mad at the world. Instead, spread kindness and always remember: Love trumps hate.
