This March, tons of businesses across the country are doing special things to honor women for National Women’s History Month. Some offer month-long discounts on their products, while others donate a portion of their March profits to women’s organizations. But this upscale ice cream joint in Minneapolis is taking a different approach to celebrating powerful women who have paved the way for others in America.
What is Milkjam Creamery?
Located near the Uptown neighborhood in Minneapolis, Milkjam Creamery is a modern ice cream shop serving up inventive flavors with unique names as well as sundaes and boozy floats. In addition to plain ice cream, visitors can treat themselves to ice cream cake, ice cream pie, and Jam Buns, which consist of your favorite flavor inside of a glazed donut sandwich! I can vouch for how truly delicious this combo is. Nonetheless, people primarily come to taste Milkjam’s out-of-this-world ice cream flavors, which have been renamed after influential women in honor of Women’s History Month. Check out some of these #iconic flavor restyles below!
Lizzo
Pictured here inside of a Glam Doll Donut, the Lizzo flavor is vanilla bean ice cream with caramelized cornflakes and a berry swirl. Lizzo is an American alternative hip-hop artist based in Minneapolis, and her ice cream flavor is surely as rocking as her music.
Selena Quintanilla
Selena Quintanilla remains one of the most celebrated Mexican-American singers of all time and essentially brought Latin music to the mainstream. She is portrayed by Jennifer Lopez in a film about her life and is remembered as an icon by millions today. Her gluten-free flavor consists of raspberry sherbet with chocolate chips.
Zendaya
As a young activist, actress, singer, and clothing designer, Zendaya is truly the full package. Her scoop starts with a Mexican coffee ice cream base and is mixed with churros and spiced chocolate.
Tarana Burke
An African-American civil rights activist, Tarana Burke is known for coining the phrase “Me Too” in 2006 to raise awareness of how widespread sexual assault and abuse is in society. Her flavor is aromatic black tea ice cream with condensed milk, and just like her, it is strong and powerful.
Ibtihaj Muhammad
A member of the United States fencing team, Muhammad is well-known for being the first Muslim-American woman to wear a hijab while competing for the United States in the Olympics. Her flavor is peanut butter banana with Oreo chunks.
While women should be celebrated all of the time, Women’s History Month allows for an extra-special honoring of all of the women that continue to blaze trails in society. If you’re in the Twin Cities, make sure to get yourself to Milkjam Creamery to try out these funky flavors. Women are truly the best, and ice cream is pretty great, too. Together, what could be better?
