Get Your Smoothie Bowl Fix (and Pics) at Viv’s Kitchen on Cape Cod

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Duke chapter.

From unicorns to dragons to mermaids (oh my), there’s been a huge push towards food that is as delicious as it is aesthetically pleasing for your Instagram story. When it comes to trendy food, Durham, NC is always on top of its game, with enough new bougie restaurants popping up to keep us up to date on the latest rendition of avocado toast. Cape Cod, on the other hand, has always been a bit more…traditional (read: no pastel colored food).

Within the past few years, this has started to change as the Cape has begun to cater to a younger generation of tourist. There’s been a slew of juice bars, hipster coffee shops, and other restaurants that boast dishes worthy of making your friends wait five minutes while you capture all the angles. And if it’s a swoon-worthy smoothie bowl you’re searching for, look no further than Viv’s Kitchen in Orleans.

Smooth Talkin’

When it first opened in May 2017, I heard rumors from friends and coworkers about how life-altering the smoothie bowls at Viv’s were. Returning to Duke before I had the opportunity to taste them myself, I knew that Viv’s would be at the top of my list when I came home the next year. And man, was it worth the wait.

Viv’s kitchen offers 5 varieties of smoothie bowl, all incorporating fresh fruit and homemade granola. They have everything from your classic açai bowl to a bowl that blends cold brew coffee with banana, avocado, and agave (it’s delicious, I promise). During the summer you can also try out their special Mermaid Bowl that’s loaded with kiwi, pineapple, dragon fruit, and superfood, spirulina extract. Its gorgeous blue color is sure to give all your friends major brunch envy. My ultimate favorite? The Brazilian Passion Bowl, complete with mangos, pineapples, bananas, passion fruit juice and coconut water. If sunshine had a taste, it would be this smoothie bowl.

As if the handmade coconut bowls weren’t Insta-worthy enough, you can also transform your smoothie bowl into a Bikini Bottom Bowl by paying $3 to enjoy it served in a hollowed-out pineapple. Sure, you could pay hundreds in airfare for a tropical vacation, or you could just head to Viv’s Kitchen and get the same effect for a fraction of the price. It’s your choice.

Overall, the smoothie bowls at Viv’s Kitchen are, without a doubt the best that you will find on Cape Cod.
