You might recognize Darnell Ferguson from Guy Fieri’s “Tournament of Champions” or Food Network’s “Ultimate Thanksgiving Challenge” hosted by Giada De Laurentis. Ferguson is using his platform as a way to help people during this time make the most out of the food in their pantry with his social media cooking segments.
How Food Changed Ferguson’s Life
Prior to being on national shows, Darnell lived out of his car and was in and out of jail. Darnell used the cooking as a way to transform his life.
In 2012, Darnell began a series of pop-up restaurants in Kentucky serving breakfast within existing restaurants that only served lunch and dinner. This innovative approach led Darnell to open up his first ‘SuperChefs’ restaurant in 2015. His second location opened up in Alabama in April 2019.
Darnell’s specializes in breakfast with a unique style of “Urban Eclectic” cooking which blends together traditional flavors in untraditional ways with a creative presentation.
Everyone Can Be A Superhero
After a few months into business, the first ‘SuperChefs’ location had a fire that led the restaurant to burn down. Luckily, Ferguson received interest from celebrity chefs and television producers requesting he share his story with the world.
These opportunities allowed Ferguson to reopen ”SuperChefs.” The restaurant is themed, designed and named after a superhero to represent the strong individuals we are as human beings and to acknowledge that everyone has the ability to be an everyday superhero.
Social Media Cooking Segments
Ferguson’s new cooking series, “Cooking Off The Shelves,” gives viewers the chance to learn how to make recipes using ingredients found left on the shelves at the grocery store. The first episode features Jaelin Kinnaird, Vice President of Operations at “SuperChefs”, to show people that anyone can cook. The episode shows viewers how to make a mushroom and onion gnocchi with a cream sauce.
