Get Your Red, White, and Booze On with these Epic July 4th Drinks

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Harvard chapter.

Summer is in full-swing, which means July 4th is around the corner. It really feels like it was just the beginning of 2018, and somehow it’s already almost July, which means we are half-way through 2018 – WEIRD! The weirdest thing about July 4th this year is that it’s on a freaking Wednesday, which leaves it up to us to decide what weekend do we celebrate: the weekend before or weekend after…or why not just celebrate BOTH weekends? To keep the red, white, and booze flowing throughout both weekends, try out one of these epic July 4th drinks.

1. American Flag Jello Shots

A holiday party favorite, these American flag jello shots are the perfect way to get the party going. Celebrate America by drinking the flag – ha party! But really though, these mini flag shots are an epic way to amp up any party.

2. Spiked Snow Cones

I can’t believe I never thought about spiking a snow cone before, because it is absolutely GENIUS. You can get your booze on while also cooling down with a delicious ice treat. While they may not exactly be a July 4th drink, these snow cones will sure melt sooner than you think, so gulp ’em quick!

3. Sour Patch Watermelon Vodka Shots

Live your childhood dreams with these re-vamped Sour Patch Watermelon treats ~booze edition~. Cut and prep the watermelon shot glasses the night before your party so that you can allow them to freeze overnight. If you are into last-minute things and enjoy being spontaneous like me bc #yolo, you can freeze them for a minimum of 3 hours so basically just while you are getting ready for the day.

4. Cherry Watermelon Sangria

This cherry watermelon sangria is the refreshing fruity take on a glass of wine that you didn’t realize you were missing. Because the flavor deepens the longer that you wait and let the mixture settle in the fridge, this summer favorite is rewarding to make. If you have any extra or old-ish fruit, dump it into the pitcher! Sangria is basically just a hodge-podge of all your left-over fruits made into a delicious afternoon pick-me-up.

5. Frozen Watermelon Mules

A new spin on a Moscow Mule, this frozen watermelon mule is the perfect mix of tangy and sweet. If your mouth isn’t watering yet, then I really don’t know what to tell you. To mix things up, you can use either vodka or rum and any fruit of your choice. Watermelon is personally my favorite summer flavor, but you do you.

6. Strawberry Gin Smash

Get smashed this 4th of July with this strawberry gin smash cocktail (see what I did there). Your can switch out any ingredients to customize the drink of your choice. All you need are three main mix-ins of your choice: liquor, fruit, and seltzer, and for extra flavor, add in mint, lemon, and/or lime.

Whether you’re staying home with your parents, away with friends, or not even in America, why not take advantage of this holiday and treat yo self to some dope July 4th drinks because you deserve it #blessup #youreallydo #promise
