How to Make the Best Vegan Salted Caramel Chocolate Milkshake

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Cal Poly chapter.

Creamy, sweet, and decadent chocolate complemented with rich, caramel, and nutty undertones, enhanced by a touch of salt–yet still nutritious? This vegan salted caramel chocolate milkshake became a go-to dessert once I became plant-based.

I have the biggest sweet tooth and fruit just doesn’t cut it for me. After looking everywhere, even the local health food stores like Whole Foods, Lassens, and Natural Foods Co-ops, I couldn’t find a non-dairy ice cream that ditched the refined sugars and added preservatives, so I created my own ideal dessert: a vegan salted caramel chocolate milkshake.

After experimenting with a few real ingredients I came up with this 5 minute recipe filled with real food, no dairy, no additives, and no added sugars. Chocolate, caramel, and sea salt is the more adventurous foodies version of the classic peanut butter and chocolate. This vegan salted caramel chocolate milkshake is perfect for the health nuts, dairy intolerant, holistic foodies, dieters, and even the Average Jo’s. What can go wrong with bananas, dates, chocolate, and sea salt?.

As you sip on this guiltless dessert, your body will be thanking you: this vegan salted caramel chocolate milkshake is rich in nutrients. Almond milk contains vitamin E, calcium, potassium, riboflavin, iron, and magnesium. Bananas–my favorite underrated fruit–are filled with fiber, potassium, vitamin B6, and vitamin C. Medjool dates, also known as nature’s caramel, are high in fiber, iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorous, niacin, calcium, and vitamin B6. Cacao powder is a great source of Zinc, protein, potassium, fat, iron, copper, manganese, magnesium, and phosphorus. Maca powder is an upcoming superfood because it increases energy and hormone balance, and improves memory, immune system, and sexual stamina and function (that’s always a plus). On top of all the incredible side effects, this root is loaded with micronutrients and amino acids including the eight essential amino acids, B vitamins, selenium, vitamin C, vitamin E, and iron. This easy vegan salted caramel chocolate milkshake recipe is packed with nutrient dense foods that will nourish your body while satisfying your tastebuds in just 5 minutes.

After trying this nutritious milkshake you’ll question why all desserts aren’t healthy. Bananas–the star of the show–when frozen act as the perfect substitute for ice cream, giving this vegan friendly milkshake a smooth, thick, velvety texture. In just a few minutes and a two simple steps, this vegan salted caramel milkshake will be your next favorite go-to dessert…or breakfast or snack or lunch. But honestly no matter what time of the day, you’ll be wanting it for every meal and I promise you won’t even miss the dairy.
