If you’re like me, then you’re a proud Kardashian-lover and keep up with them every week. If you’re someone that claims to hate them, chances are you still can’t resist reading the latest Kardashian-related cover story when you’re in line at the grocery store. Whether you keep up with the Kardashians or not, nobody can deny that Khloe Kardashian has been the KWEEN of fitness lately. She even documented her fitness journey in her book, “Strong Looks Better Naked.” In the name of science and all things Kardashian, I decided that Khloe Kardashian’s book would be my bible for a week to see if a college student could keep up (sorry, I couldn’t resist) with her diet and exercise lifestyle.
According to “Strong Looks Better Naked,” Khloe’s typical day looks something like this:
5 am: Water and a black coffee
6 am: Workout time
8 am: Oatmeal and a protein shake
11 am: Apple with peanut butter or fruit and nuts
1 pm: Chinese chicken salad
3 pm: Hummus, veggies, edamame and of course more water
7 pm: Steamed veggies, fish and cauliflower mash… and water!
9 pm: Greek yogurt and fruit
Day 1:
I was off to a poor start already. Even though I happily ate (vegetarian versions) of Khloe’s go-to meals, I opted to ditch the 6 a.m. workout in favor of a 6 p.m. spin class. Luckily, Khloe mentions in her book that she does enjoy spinning and her workout schedule is flexible, so I’d say I’m off the hook for today.
Khloe Quote of the Day: “It’s not good to be a zealot about exercise, about food, or about anything else.”
Day 2:
Turns out, going to the gym when it’s still pitch black outside isn’t really my thing, but it was a nice not having to wait for the equipment I needed. Because Khloe swears by squats, lunges, and planks, I decided to incorporate them into her typical workout. Her workouts are created by celebrity personal trainer/fitness god, Gunnar Peterson, so naturally I was a bit skeptical that I could actually complete them.
Although the workout was tough, I felt confident knowing I could complete it (and knowing I could finally eat when I was done).
Khloe Quote of the Day: “You regret not going [to the gym], but you never regret getting through with it, even if you had to scream at yourself to get there.”
Day 3:
While I enjoyed Khloe’s diet routine in the beginning, I was starting to get a little tired of the repetition. WHERE WERE ALL THE CARBS AT?!
To keep myself from going crazy, I made small adjustments to the diet plan like swapping asparagus for broccoli or switching up the protein, but after a while I was simply sick of salad.
I hit “snooze” on my alarm clock once again and decided to skip the 5:00 a.m. wake-up time. She said don’t be a zealot about exercise, okay?! For my day 3 workout, I went to an Insanity class because they typically incorporate the cardio and strength similar to Khloe’s routine.
Khloe Quote of the Day: “Motivation can be a real b****, but you won’t get strong without it.”
Day 4:
“Hello darkness, my old friend”- Simon & Garfunkel/Me at 5:30 a.m. I decided to kick it up a notch for Day 4 and complete one of Khloe’s favorite workouts: boxing.
After completing this killer workout, I felt wide awake and already sore. As nice as it was to have my meals planned out for the day, I was completely over Khloe’s go-to foods. All I wanted at this point was a doughnut.
Khloe Quote of the Day: “Don’t diet . . . I mean, the word die is in there!”
Day 5:
Things took a turn for the worst on Day 5. Even though I finally got the doughnut I was craving (spoiler alert: it was delicious,) I didn’t make it to the gym. But hey, I’m a busy college student! Not to mention that my body felt like it was hit by a train thanks to the boxing workout the day before.
On the bright side, with the exception of the cheat doughnut, I did stick to Khloe’s meal regimen and happily embraced my workout-free day.
Khloe Quote of the Day: “Life isn’t about perfection, but about growth.”
Day 6:
Turns out, I’m not really into eating the same thing everyday. While I stuck to the book most of Day 6, by the time dinner rolled around, pasta was calling my name. I kept my Day 4 Khloe Quote in mind and enjoyed every last bite of those noodles.
Eager to redeem myself from my lazy Day 5, I headed to the gym bright and early. Along with cardio, I completed Khloe’s go-to workout and thanked the heavens that Day 7 was just around the corner.
Khloe Quote of the Day: “Your mind needs exercise, too. And it’s not going to get it without a push.”
Day 7:
Once I made it to the final day of this experiment, all I could think was, “FINALLY.” I decided that since it was Day 7, I would give it my all and do everything by the book (literally.) By the end of the night, I was grateful to be going back to my non-Kardashian lifestyle and couldn’t wait to sleep in until 7 a.m.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Khloe’s routine is great if you have the energy to wake up at 5:30 a.m. to workout and have the discipline to eat the same thing everyday, but I don’t think it’s the best option for a college student with a hectic, sometimes unpredictable schedule. If you’re looking for some revenge body motivation, somewhat-inspiring quotes and pictures of the Kardashian Klan throughout the years, buy Strong Looks Better Naked! or borrow it from the library, like my broke college student self did.
