I know how it feels to move far from home, meet your roommates for the first time, and have no clue how to start a conversation. I lived with three other girls my first year of college and it was so awkward getting to know each other. We did some crafting at first but nothing brought us together like baking some cookies. From roomie to roomie, here are five easy recipes you can make together to bond.
1. Chocolate Chip Cookies
Chocolate chip cookies are an easy and fun dessert to make. Head on over to the grocery store, buy a pack of frozen cookie dough and a gallon of milk. You and your roommate can bond while waiting for the cookies to bake and enjoy the warm, freshly baked goodness. If you’re more of the do-it-yourself kind of person, Martha Stewart has a great chocolate chip cookie recipe.
#SpoonTip: Try dark brown sugar instead of light brown sugar. It does wonders, I promise.
2. Buffalo Chicken Dip
Regular ranch dipping sauce can get boring sometimes. Spice things up with your roommate and make some Buffalo Chicken Dip. It’s a simple two-step process that will always leave you wanting more — so be sure to buy extra ingredients, just in case. All that’s left to do is get some chips (or veggies if you prefer) and start dipping!
#SpoonTip: Buying pre-shredded chicken lessens the workload and gets that dip started quicker.
3. Rice Krispie Treats
Snap, crackle and enjoy some Rice Krispie Treats. Follow Rice Krispies simple recipe to start and then if you’re feeling fancy, head on over to the baking section to dress it up a bit. You and your roomie can decorate your rice krispies with icing, candy, or anything else your heart desires.
#SpoonTip: If you prefer gooey rice krispie treats, add more marshmallow mix.
4. Ramen
It sounds very generic but making ramen can be a lot of fun. You and your roommate can buy packs of ramen and pick up some fresh veggies and/or meats. Then, just head to the kitchen and get creative. Want something different? Try making Ramen Noodle Grilled Cheese. The great thing about ramen is you can add so many things to it to create a bomb meal.
#SpoonTip: Adding an egg to ramen is so good and adds extra protein. Try it.
5. Smoothies
It’s always good to be healthy. Talk it over with your roomie and pick a day to make smoothies together. Run to your local grocery store to buy some of your favorite fruits and veggies, whip out the blender, and start experimenting. There are millions of smoothie variations to try. In the end, you’ll both be feeling closer and healthier.
#SpoonTip: If you do not have a blender, here are three different ways to still make that smoothie party happen
Don’t waste another second — talk to your roommate and get to cooking. You’ll have a lot of fun getting to know each other while sharing a couple of meals together. Who knows, this might even turn into a weekly thing!
