The Best of Harvard’s Off-Brand Cereals

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Harvard chapter.

Let’s be real. While we all make fun of Harvard’s off-brand cereal names, we actually love them and know that d-halls wouldn’t be the same without them. That is why we decided to share some of the best of Harvard’s off-brand cereals.

Marshmallow Mateys

Nothing brings us back to childhood more than picking the marshmallows out of Lucky Charms. Now, we get to go back in time by munching on Marshmallow Mateys in the d-hall while trying to finish a p-set due at 9am.

These yummy O’s are not just your ordinary Cheerios. The Honey Nut Toasty O’s are lighter and are a great substitute if you don’t want to spend $5 on a box of the mainstream brand from CVS.

Crispy Rice

Crispy Rice! What?! While it may sound a little suspect, these are just like your plain old Rice Krispies. It’s not easy to munch on them dry since they are small, but pour on some milk — or hey, why not chocolate milk? – and enjoy your Crispy Rice.

Spoon tip: To copy Emack and Bolio’s outrageously delicious ice cream creations in the dhall, swirl some soft serve in a cone or cup, sprinkle with Crispy Rice, Colossal Crunch, or any of your favorite cereals, and voila! – you’ve put your own Harvard spin on E&B’s famous Rice Krispie cone.

Harvard Granola

This isn’t just your plain old, boring granola. This is Harvard’s granola. It is sweet and sticky, filled with raisons and other crunchy goodies. It goes with just about anything.

Spoon tip: Get some Greek yogurt, honey, peanut butter, then scoop some of the granola on top, and you have a perfect breakfast, snack, or dessert!

Kellog’s Cracklin’ Oat Bran

We couldn’t go without mentioning Harvard’s only brand cereal. Especially because it is one of the most delicious, snackable cereals HUDS has to offer. Cracklin’ Oat Bran has just the right amount of sweetness and a satisfying crunch, just as good dry as swimming in a bowl of milk. But be warned – this stuff is addictive!

So, go head over to the cereal dispensers and enjoy the delicious goodies that are the best of Harvard’s off-brand cereal.

I'm a sophomore at Harvard concentrating in history and science with a secondary in global health and health policy. I love to play basketball, run, travel, and explore cities. I am originally from New York City, so I loved being able to go to different neighborhoods and experience the different cultures. What I loved most about NYC were the different restaurants or food fairs that I could go to. I really enjoy trying out new and cool foods.
