It’s spring break and you’re just way too broke to hop on a plane to an exotic destination this year, so a road trip to some of your local hot spots might be the best. Wherever your destination may be, as long as you’ve got good company, good tunes, and (most importantly) good snacks, you can’t go wrong. Here’s a list of my favorite healthy road trip snack that will bring your spring break to another level.
1. Fruit Kind Bars
These convenient bars (made with ingredients you can actually pronounce) are some of the kindest things you could do to your tummy when all you’ve seen for the past 30 miles is a McDonald’s and a gas station.
2. Annie’s Fruit Snacks
Aside from bringing you back to your childhood days, this healthy road trip snack also happens to be organic and is low in calories and sodium, while also being an excellent source of vitamin C.
3. HummuStir
This portable DIY hummus dip is perfect as an on-the-go healthy snack. With only 45 calories per serving, this organic and non-GMO hummus is perfect to pair up with some homemade chips.
4. Grapes
If you’re heading somewhere hot, pop these suckers into the fridge or freezer before you leave—you can thank me later. Can’t decide between red and green? No problem.
5. Oatmeal Cookies
All you need is a banana, some peanut butter, a packet of oatmeal, chocolate chips, a microwave, and about six minutes to have some healthy homemade oatmeal cookies for the road
6. Homemade Vegetable Chips
Substitute the fatty store-bought potato chips with the “Queen of Green.” To learn how to make some these crunchy treats click here.
7. Babybel Cheese
This snack packs a mean punch when it comes to protein. The super convenient wax exterior takes this cheesy snack from “I’m having some cheese” to “I’m having some fromage.”
8. Almonds
Packed with lots of nutrients, protein, and healthy fats that will help you stay full, almonds come in a wide range of flavors. Personally, I can’t get enough of Blue Diamond’s toasted coconut flavor, but you’ve got tons of choices.
9. Bare Coconut Crisps
Baked without oil until crunchy, this snack is yet another perfect healthy substitute for store-bought chips. Bare’s coconut chips come in four different flavors: the Simply Toasted coconut chips and the Honey coconut chips for the more traditional crowd, the Chocolate Bliss for the choco-holics, and the Sweet and Heat coconut chips for the especially daring.
10. Dark Chocolate
For the choco-holics reading this, make sure to fuel up on some dark chocolate. It’s been found to be beneficial for your health by lowering risks of heart disease and increase brain functions.
Wherever you’re heading this spring break, be sure to bring along some of these deliciously healthy road trip snacks to help keep your mood and energy up.
