Which Healthy Snack You Should Try, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Wash U chapter.

I’ll admit it, reading my horoscope is a guilty pleasure of mine, and my mom and I love to use our zodiac signs to explain our behavior. Consulting the stars is always a fun (and occasionally very convincing) way to interpret the world, so I figured there was no reason the zodiac couldn’t help us all with one of the most pressing questions out there: What snack should I eat?

Just like the section on your horoscope that tells you which other signs you’re compatible with, below are the particular snacks most compatible with each sign.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19): Banana with Peanut Butter

The Capricorn is practical and hardworking. They need a snack that will serve as a filling and nutritious boost to help them push through a full list of daily responsibilities. Bananas are easy to transport, potassium-heavy and sweet enough to fill in for dessert. Add a little bit of peanut butter into the mix, and you’ve got a full and happy stomach.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18): Endive Leaves with Ricotta

The Aquarius is progressive and original, and needs a snack that can keep up with that. Endives are low in calories and high in fiber and vitamin A, making them a great choice for a midday pick-me-up. Spreading ricotta on top adds a bit of creamy texture and richness to complement the mildness of the endives.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20): Hard-Boiled Egg

The Pisces is sensitive, artistic and compassionate, and needs a food as soft as she is. Hard-boiled eggs (not hard at all!) are full of protein and healthy fats, but require a certain creative flair to master. We’ve all experienced the powdery, almost-green overcooked version, as well as the slimy, translucent undercooked one—both of which are rather unappetizing. But when done right, a hard-boiled egg is a beautifully vibrant and perfectly soft snack.

Aries (March 21 – April 19): Bell Peppers and Hummus

The Aries is known to be passionate and high-achieving—always trying to live life to the fullest. They are generally busy and need a snack that is easy, portable and provides for a solid energy boost. Pairing a serving of veggies with hummus does the trick. Chop up some bell peppers, throw them in a container with 1/4 cup of hummus, and then store them in the fridge until snack time.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Nuts

A Taurus is reliable and practical, the kind of person you can always depend on. The only snack classic enough to match this personality is a handful of nuts—not the most exciting snack, to be fair, but one that will surely never let you down.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20): Greek Yogurt Parfait

A Gemini is generally high-energy and adaptable, always looking for something new to experience. A yogurt parfait is perfect for trying out exciting new flavors and textures. Beyond a basic Greek yogurt base, the combination possibilities are endless: dried or fresh fruits, nuts, seeds, granola, and coconut are among the few toppings you might use to adapt your yogurt parfait to your mood.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22): Trail Mix

A Cancer is loyal, intuitive and sensitive. She needs a snack that both reminds her of home and is sufficient for a real adult. Trail mix fits the bill—as long as it’s primarily comprised of nuts and dried fruit and avoids processed candies like M&Ms. I’d suggest some pieces of dark chocolate instead if you’re looking for that kick of sweetness.

Leo (July 23 – August 22): Spiralized Cucumber

A Leo is a cheerful, dramatic leader who likes bright colors and being in control. What better snack for the Leo than the bougie, dramatized version of a trusty cucumber? Drizzle spiralized cucumbers with olive oil, sprinkle on some pepper and a bit of salt, and you’re good to go.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22): Edamame

A Virgo is clever and modest, and often underrated, much like their compatible snack, edamame. Edamame is not only low-calorie, but also a great natural source of calcium, protein and iron. Who knew such little pods could pack such a punch?

Libra (September 23 – October 22): Air-Popped Popcorn

A Libra is peaceful, easygoing and social. What snack is easy to make and also the life of the party? It has to be popcorn—another snack that’s low in calories, but boasts a long list of antioxidants and vitamins. If you buy whole grain kernels and pop them yourself on the stovetop, you’ll maintain complete control of the flavor and nutritional value, too.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21): Smoothie

A Scorpio is resourceful, brave and decisive. They could easily pull together an uninspiring list of pantry and fridge items to create a perfectly satisfying smoothie. And they would be confident in the quality of their final creation because a smoothie—when made with wholesome ingredients like fruit and yogurt—is a foolproof healthy snack.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21): Sweet Potato with Cojita Cheese

A Sagittarius is energetic, curious and always traveling. This Mexican-inspired snack is easy to prepare (just cook the sweet potato and sprinkle Cojita cheese on top), but feels adventurous enough to satisfy a Sagittarius’ desire to explore something new.

These sign-food pairings will hopefully allow you to satisfy the innermost elements of your personality shaped by the cosmos. But if the snack listed for your sign doesn’t completely capture your heart, you might opt for the breakfast food paired with your sign or even one of these underrated cheese and zodiac combinations.

Alia is a former athlete from DC who had to stop playing sports because of hip injuries (two torn labrums), and decided to explore baking and cooking as ways to cope with her newfound free time.  Her family is a blend of Lebanese and Swedish, which basically means lots of really tasty food that she hasn't quite mastered how to make.
