The Most Scenic Rooftop Bars in Jacksonville, FL

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UNF chapter.

Anyone who attends the University of North Florida knows Jacksonville isn’t the typical “college town.” We don’t have an abundance of Ladies Nights, buckets of sweet concoctions, or the issue of  having to sneak drinks on game day. I know what you’re thinking—that’s all the fun of college. But here in Jacksonville, we disagree.

Instead, imagine having just as much fun drinking the night away overlooking downtown, or drinking your Sunday Funday looking over gorgeous Jacksonville beach. A benefit of the Sunshine State: rooftop weather year round. These rooftop bars are sure to provide you a great view, and an even better buzz.

Is there really anything better than tacos and margaritas with a view? I think not. Maybe the eclectic atmosphere of Burrito Gallery to make you feel extra hip? As if the neon green exterior wasn’t enough to grab your attention, the rooftop strung with outdoor lights and a original ‘JAX MEX’ mural will be sure to leave a lasting impression. Located in the Brooklyn area of Riverside, you’ll be sure to enjoy happy hour margs with the sun setting over downtown Jacksonville. Make sure to try their Fried Chicken Tender BLT taco while sipping on a House margarita.

Right on the corner of Bay Street in downtown Jax is this new location for the locally-loved brewery. Relocating from their location in Riverside, these brews now come with a view. Whether or not you’re a fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars, this is the unofficial spot for away game football watch parties with a pretty stellar view of Everbank Stadium.

Your best bet is to go with a beer flight to get a feel for which one of the local brews hits the spot just right. The craft beer selections here range from pale ales to seasonal batches (I’m looking at you Oktoberfest). I suggest the La-Di-Frickin’-Da, because with a name like that how could I not? Just recently added to the tap room is a pop-up shop of local Black Sheep Restaurant and four words… Hot Cheetos Mac and Cheese. You seriously do NOT want to miss it.

Everyone thinks of one place when you’re thinking fancy dinner spot: Black Sheep Restaurant. There’s no denying that the third-story rooftop bar is one not to miss in Jacksonville. Again, located in the Riverside neighborhood, Black Sheep is a great place for date night and their Sunday brunch is amazing. Their cocktails range from sugary-sweet to salty and spicy. There’s something for everyone on this menu, and it’s hard to pick just one. If you’re feeling ritzy, I suggest the Black Sheep Benedict along side a Bloody Winston.

Located atop the Historic Casa Marina hotel in Jacksonville Beach, this rooftop could be considered a hidden gem. With an amazing beach view, you can feel the sea breeze in your hair year-round. Another great brunch spot, there’s not much better than getting day-drunk at the beach. People in Jacksonville know this. Of course, being beach side you want to sip on a fruity cocktail, but take a chance on their extensive martini list. I recommend The Alamo. To not ruin your perfectly good buzz, but to fulfill your drunk munchies, check out their perfect bar food menu. I definitely suggest the blue chips.

Jacksonville may not give you that sticky hangover from jungle juice or nights where beer is 25 cents, but man oh man, do we get stellar Instagram photos. So whether it be Sunday brunch, after class happy-hour or late night partying, hit up these rooftops for your next outing.
