Spoon U and dining services collaborated to bless the student body with a “grilled cheese bar”, unlike any other takeover we’ve done before. But, we can’t forget about our french fries, smoothie bowls or avocado toast. Just when you thought a grilled cheese couldn’t get any better….we took it to the next level. How, you may ask? Well, we offered bread that is favored around the country from Perreca’s Bakery, to make sure the sandwiches were perfect inside and out.
For the inside, first thing is first: cheese. There was cheddar, smoked gouda, provolone, American and pepper jack. Our sauces included Italian mayo, chipotle mayo, pesto, honey mustard, and herb garlic butter to spread over the bread. For those who felt guilty about their cheese and bread consumption we also offered some vegetables and meats.
I stuffed my sandwich with bacon, slabbed pesto all over it, then added a few extra slices of smoked gouda and tomato to thicken it up. It was easily the peak of my day.
This cheesy opportunity would not have been a success without our lovely dining hall staff. Nick Salvagini, an American Dining employee, expressed how pleased he was with our takeover stating, “Candidly, we’ve only had a few opportunities to have other student groups besides SpoonU attempt a takeover and the key factor that I feel makes your group so successful at these events is your willingness to engage and your enthusiasm when you are behind the line. All in all, we have been incredibly pleased with the takeovers so far and are looking forward to the next.” Thank you Nick!
Another takeover, another success. If you have any suggestions or ideas for our next takeover let us know. We hope we inspired your next grilled cheese to be better than ever!
