Vegetarian Options at El Diablo Burritos

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Delaware chapter.

If you think El Diablo Burritos is only for meat lovers, think again. This customizable, counter-serve restaurant on Main Street in Newark, Delaware features unique options for vegetarian burritos, bowls, tacos and salads.

With their large portion sizes, you get more than enough protein, regardless if you eat meat or not at a great price. El Diablo’s menu can be a little overwhelming at first, these favorite vegetarian options will have you drooling for more.

If you are vegetarian, opt for a burrito or bowl with roasted Kennett mushrooms, brown or white rice, black beans, shredded romaine, pepper jack cheese, corn salsa and mild or spicy pico de gallo. I recommend adding the salsa verde sauce to this delicious combo.

#SpoonTip: When you go up to the counter to order, ask for a tortilla on the side. They’ll warm it up for you and you won’t get charged for it.

If you’re looking to cut out some carbs, make your own salad. The veggies are always fresh, and the pickled peppers are a fan favorite. You’ll want to add guacamole even though it costs extra because it’s that good. UD students swear by the chipotle ranch dressing.

Mahi-Mahi

If you are pescatarian, you can make the perfect Mahi-Mahi burrito bowl with white rice, black beans, corn salsa, cilantro, romaine lettuce, pico de gallo and shallot dressing. If you enjoy a little sweet and spicy kick in your meals, be sure to try the pineapple habanero salsa.

Tacos and Quesadillas

If a burrito or bowl is not necessarily your meal of choice, you can order delicious soft or hard shell flour or corn tacos or a fresh. If you’re not feeling tacos either, you can’t go wrong by creating your own quesadilla.

The best way to complete an El Diablo meal is with a side of salty and crunchy chips with guacamole, salsa or queso.  You’ll definitely be a member of the El Diablo over Chipotle club in no time.
