6 Mini Foods That Rival Their Large Counterparts

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UGA chapter.

A couple of years ago, when I was still a naive young freshman, a friend of mine introduced me to the wonderful world of the mini M&Ms. I’d had them before but never realized just how amazing they were. It was quite the epiphany, and it made me wonder what other miniaturized foods were better than their larger friends. There’s a whole world of ’em out there, so here are just a few of the best to get you hopping on the mini food bandwagon.

1. Pigs in a Blanket

While it might be a controversial opinion, it’s simple: pigs in a blanket are better than hot dogs. These little guys pack tons of flavor in just a couple bites, and that flakey exterior is pretty irresistible. Plus, they’re way easier (and less embarrassing) to eat than a hot dog.

2. Mini M&M’s

As I mentioned above, it’s only been in recent years that I’ve realized how much better mini M&M’s are compared to the regular kind. Something about the smaller candy coating gives the M&M’s some extra flavor—especially when eaten in bulk. Added bonus: getting to eat out of the fun little tube.

3. Mini Cupcakes

I recently became obsessed with Baked by Melissa’s mini cupcakes—so much so that a friend and I special ordered a box to Georgia from New York just for the hell of it. The best thing about mini cupcakes? You can eat a ton, and it still won’t add up to the size of a regular cupcake.

Honorable Mention: Mini Macarons

Baked by Melissa also makes some dank mini macarons.

4. Baby Carrots

This list needed at least one healthy food, and if you’re like me, eating carrots Bugs Bunny-style with greens and all just isn’t your thing. Baby carrots are just more practical. However, there is one unfortunate truth behind them: baby carrots are not just infant carrots.

5. Cake Pops

Whether you call them cake pops like me or cake balls like my friend JLaw, we can all agree that cake pops are regular cake’s cooler, tastier, younger siblings. Don’t believe me? Try out this cake pop recipe and see for yourself.

6. Sliders

The best thing about mini burgers? Variety. When you’re faced with the tough choice between two (or three or four or five) delicious looking burgers, sliders let you have the best of both worlds. #blessed
