These Solar Eclipse Watch Party Recipes Are Out Of This World

Today, the moon will pass between the Earth and the sun, creating a total eclipse across parts of Europe and Russia by completely blocking the sun, while much of the Northern Hemisphere will catch a partial eclipse. Whether you’re lucky enough to be directly in the eclipse’s path or simply catching a partial view, there’s no reason your snacks can’t get in on the celestial action.

So grab your eclipse glasses and something to snack on. From cosmic brownies to moon-shaped sandwiches, these solar eclipse watch party recipes are a surefire way to add some celestial magic to your celestial gathering.

Cosmic brownies

It doesn’t get much more cosmic than cosmic brownies. Recreate the nostalgic Little Debbie treat at home with a batch of fudgy brownies topped with chocolate ganache and rainbow chocolate chips — or just regular rainbow sprinkles. If you’re more of a cookie person, try this TikTok creator’s cookie-inspired take on the classic instead.

And, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my personal favorite: cosmic brownie overnight oats. As an overnight oats fanatic myself, this creator’s recipe sounds like the perfect way to extend this eclipse celebration into breakfast time.

@eatingwell

These cosmic brownie–inspired overnight oats turn a childhood favorite into a nutritious breakfast with serious dessert vibes. These creamy oats are made with cocoa powder and a touch of maple syrup, then topped with a chocolate topping that mimics the classic brownie ganache. Ingredients     ⁃    2¼ cups unsweetened almond milk     ⁃    2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats     ⁃    ¾ cup whole-milk plain strained (Greek-style) yogurt     ⁃    2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon pure maple syrup     ⁃    2 tablespoons chia seeds     ⁃    2 tablespoons cocoa powder     ⁃    1 tablespoon vanilla extract     ⁃    ½ teaspoon salt     ⁃    ¾ ounce bittersweet chocolate, chopped (about 2½ tablespoons)     ⁃    1½ teaspoons unrefined coconut oil     ⁃    1 tablespoon rainbow sprinkles Directions     1.    Whisk 2¼ cups almond milk, 2 cups oats, ¾ cup yogurt, 2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon maple syrup, 2 tablespoons chia seeds, 2 tablespoons cocoa, 1 tablespoon vanilla and ½ teaspoon salt together in a large bowl until combined. Let stand until set and thickened, about 10 minutes.     2.    Meanwhile, stir chopped chocolate and 1½ teaspoons coconut oil together in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on High for 45 seconds. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and incorporated into the oil.     3.    Divide the oat mixture among 4 (8-ounce) jars (about 1 cup each). Spoon about 1½ teaspoons melted chocolate mixture over the oat mixture in each jar, tilting the jar if needed to cover the oats completely. Immediately sprinkle 1 tablespoon sprinkles over the chocolate layers.     4.    Let stand until the chocolate layer is set, about 2 minutes; cover and refrigerate for at least 12 hours (and up to 4 days) before serving. Moon pies

The name of these alone makes Moon Pies practically mandatory for an eclipse watch party. The classic treat, invented back in 1917, sandwiches marshmallow filling between two round graham cracker cookies before coating the whole thing in chocolate. If you’re feeling ambitious, you can follow a homemade Moon Pie recipe, like these creators’ classic Moon Pie and total eclipse pie recipes. You can also keep things simple and pick up a box from the store — no baking required

@lilypcrumbs

Moon pies! When it comes to 90s snacks and discontinued snacks, these are my LEAST favorite BUT the homemade version is unbeatable. Chewy and soft graham cracker cookies, homemade marshmallow fluff dipped in chocolate, basically a smore #moonpie #solareclipse #totaleclipseoftheheart #90ssnacks

Eclipse cookies

If you want to get a little more literal with your eclipse-themed baking, these eclipse cookies recreate the eclipse as a dessert. This creator’s cookies use black cocoa powder to ensure the cookie base is extra dark, along with yellow icing on top to depict the moon passing in front of the glowing sun.

Moon-shaped sandwiches

After all those desserts, your eclipse spread might need something savory: Enter moon-shaped sandwiches. Make your sandwich of choice — cucumber and cream cheese, turkey and cheese, or maybe even a classic peanut butter and jelly — and use a cookie cutter or knife to transform it into a crescent.

But if your sweet tooth is just a little too strong, you can also make moon-shaped cookies, like this creator.
