One Influencer Is Taking Takeout To A New Level

There’s very little that I love more than the convenience of DoorDash. As a full-time college student and part-time behavior technician, sometimes you just need a quick coffee and bagel delivered to your dorm before class or work. In fact, my Dash Pass is probably the most useful subscription I pay for. With things like DoorDash and Instacart being massive hubs for convenient meals and groceries, it’s no wonder that more and more people are reaping the benefits. But there’s one influencer who is going above and beyond with her DoorDashing.

Audrey Peters’ TikTok journey began the same way as so many of her peers, the pandemic. After the U.S. effectively shut down in March of 2020, Peters turned to TikTok to document her life and make connections in a quarantined world. Now, the New York City influencer boasts 1.1 million followers, and although she has a wide range of content, there is one series that has the internet divided, her daily DoorDash vlogs.

In early April, Audrey shared with her followers that she DoorDashes almost all of her meals, from her morning coffee to late night desserts. In a TikTok from June 9, Audrey revealed that the total of her orders that day amounted to $132.51, an amount that had the comment section up in arms. One commenter, @ggbushi, wrote “$20 for soft serve where half of it is fees,” and @daniella did the math and commented “if you spend $132 on an average, it’s almost $45,000 for a year.” Other commenters defended Audrey, noting that it is her money to spend and she likely partners with DoorDash to boost sales.

I also did the math, and added up not only the prices of each DoorDash total from when she started sharing the prices on April 22 to her most recent one two days ago, but I also calculated the average cost, and the numbers were shocking. While the total of the 8 video orders came to an absurd $768.22, the average cost of all eight orders only came to just over $96, which is still crazy to me as a college student, but I can’t argue with the fact that Audrey Peters is not only largely supporting local restaurants rather than chains, but is also singlehandedly stimulating the NYC economy.

However, some of her neighbors have opinions of their own, and I can’t help but see both sides. TikTok user @cool.grls.only made a video yesterday on living in the same area as Audrey Peters, and the TikTok, which currently has 15.3k likes, brings up a really interesting point. This creator shares with viewers that the Starbucks Audrey Peters ordered her recent $25 coffee from is only 900 feet away from where the two live. This means that the coffee, which only rang up to a little over $11 before fees, could have been much cheaper for the influencer

It’s no secret that New York City is one of the most walkable areas to live in, and I have to wonder if convenience is worth spending almost double on a coffee that exists two minutes from you. For Audrey’s sake, I sure hope she has a DashPass, because it doesn’t look like she plans on stopping her takeout takeover anytime soon.
