Many of us love a good burger. There’s just something about a burger on the grill that screams summer has finally begun. Even just going through a drive-thru to order your favorite combo can satisfy the craving for a juicy, flavorful bite that checks all the right boxes of savory, salty, and delicious.
Popular fast-food chain Wendy’s seems to have taken the world’s love for burgers a step further by combining it with our collective obsession with snacks. For fans of the restaurant’s Baconator, Wendy’s collabed with Cheez-It’s to create a new combo: a Baconator flavored Cheez-It. As a kid, Wendy’s square burgers always had a special place in my heart, so I entered trying the new flavor with an open mind. To see if a bite-sized snack can capture the feeling of a number two at Wendy’s, and essentially a full meal, I tried the new Baconator Cheez-Its to give you the scoop.
What are the Baconator Cheez-Its?
The new snack is described as a fusion of two American icons: Wendy’s and Cheez-Its. Staying true to what Cheez-Its fans are familiar with, the new snack is made with 100% real cheese and has layers of rich applewood smoked bacon to embody the Wendy’s Baconator.
What do the Baconator Cheez-Its taste like?
According to the product’s description, the cracker has its classic crunch with an unexpected flavor. After my first bite, these two facts were definitely true. While the new snack gave me the feel of a Cheez-It, the taste of it smacked my senses almost immediately. I did a smell test first and can confirm that it does not taste the way it smells, but both were a bit overpowering initially.
Once I tried my first cracker, honestly, I was ready to put them down because of the unexpected burst of flavor that was for sure giving Baconator. As I kept testing out more crackers, I slowly felt an addiction coming on, and let the collabed companies work their magic. The crackers were salty in true Cheez-It essence, and I tasted the bacon throughout the experience. There was a bit of an aftertaste which I expected to be a weird tang on my tongue, but I was left with a faint taste of it that had me reaching for more.
I’m glad I pushed past my apprehension of giving the flavor a chance because it truly confused me at first. However, like with any new combination, it just took my taste buds time to catch up to the strange occurrence happening with the square orange cracker. The moment they did, I started to appreciate how bold — and surprisingly addicting — it really was. I’ll be adding these to the list of limited time flavors I will be missing when it’s gone.
