How to Make Toffee and Chocolate Covered Matzah in 5 Easy Steps

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Wash U chapter.

We all know how mediocre Passover desserts can be without the luxury of yeast. I’m all for those jellied candies and macaroons, but usually they just don’t satisfy like a real dessert should. Luckily, this chocolate-covered matzah definitely hits the spot, especially with the white chocolate and peanut butter drizzle added on top.

Easy

Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes

Servings: 7 full matzah squares

Ingredients
1 box unsalted matzah
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 bag chocolate chips
1/2 bag peanut butter chips
1/4 bag white chocolate chips
Toffee bits topping to taste

Directions

1. Lay out matzah on a cookie sheet covered with foil. Break pieces to cover as much space as possible.

2. Heat butter and brown sugar over the stove on medium heat until butter is melted all the way through and the mixture begins to boil.

3. Spread brown sugar and butter mixture over each piece of matzah and bake at 350°F for about 15 minutes. The sugar will bubble up in the oven; check every couple of minutes to make sure the sugar isn’t burning. If it starts to burn, lower the oven to 325°F.

4. Melt the chocolate in the microwave while you wait for the matzah to cool (about 10 minutes). I’ve found it’s best to heat the chocolate for 30-45 seconds, stir, and then heat again for another 30 seconds.

5. Spread the chocolate over the matzah and let cool for another 10 minutes. Sprinkle melted peanut butter chips, melted white chocolate chips and toffee pieces over the chocolate for extra flavor and sweetness.
