Located down the bustling streets of Westwood, Pomodoro Trattoria is a must-try Italian restaurant. With its cozy interior and wide selection of pastas and pizzas, Pomodoro Trattoria does not fail in creating a welcoming atmosphere that has delicious Italian cuisine!
When coming here with my friends, there were so many options on the menu that sounded so delicious that we had a difficult time deciding on what to order. Our server, Gustavo, however, kindly recommended his top picks: the Farfalle Con Pollo, Penne Con Turkey Sausage, Spaghetti Mediterranea, and the Pizza Con Tutto.
Farfalle Con Pollo
Farfalle Con Pollo translates directly to “butterfly pasta with chicken” in English. The dish is made with Bowtie pasta and is sauteed with chicken, shallots, and fresh spinach and served with a creamy tomato sauce. I am usually particular on the way pasta noodles are cooked, but the noodles were cooked perfectly, as it was neither too hard nor too soft. Additionally, the chicken sauteed into the pasta was very tender and nicely seasoned. The added shallots also gave the pasta a smokey taste that complimented well with the creamy tomato sauce base.
Penne Con Turkey Sausage
The Penne Con Turkey Sausage, was my personal favorite. The pasta had a spicy marinara sauce base and included mushrooms, garlic, and grilled turkey sausage. The marinara sauce was bold and rich in flavor and had chunks of tomato added into the sauce which created a nice texture to the dish. I was a bit hesitant to order this dish at first because of my low spice tolerance, but the spice was very minimal and I would argue it instead enhanced the flavor of the pasta. My favorite part of the pasta was definitely the turkey sausage. I was surprised by how flavorful and lean the sausage since it wasn’t too salty.
Spaghetti Mediterranean
The last pasta that we ordered was the Spaghetti Mediterranea. Out of the three pastas, this was my least favorite, but it was still very tasty. The dish was cooked with white wine and sauteed the spaghetti noodles with chicken, red bell peppers, fresh spinach, and garlic. It had a similar taste to the Farfalle Con Pollo, but the addition of the white wine enhanced the flavors of the pasta. However, I wished the sauce was more thick since it was very light.
Pizza Con Tutto
The Pizza Con Tutto was absolutely delicious! It had mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce as its base and was topped with Italian sausage, pepperoni, sliced olives, diced red onion, bell pepper, and oregano. The toppings complimented each other so well. The olives and red onion brought out the sweetness of the tomato sauce, and the addition of the sausage and pepperoni added a savory touch. They were also not skimpy with the toppings which I loved. Every bite had a bit of toppings in it. The size of the pizza was also favorable, as it came with six slices. So it was definitely a good size to share if you had already ordered other entrees. The crust of the pizza was also so good. It was doughy and fluffy but crispy on the outside. I would highly recommend this pizza if you are a meat lover like me!
Other Comments
In addition to the pastas and pizza we had ordered, we were also served a complimentary side of bread to dip with olive oil and vinegar. The bread was so delicious and comforting. It was crispy on the outside and fluffy and warm on the inside. It was so tasty when dipped into the olive oil and vinegar. The vinegar mixed in together with the olive oil created a buttery, tangy taste that soaked up well into the fluffy bread. Gustavo also let us in on a little secret to add a sprinkle of parmesan cheese into the dip for more flavor.
Final Verdict
If you are in the area, I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. The service was top-notch and the ambiance of the restaurant was very nice. My friends and I absolutely devoured the pizza and the pastas we ordered.
