This Breakfast Smoothie Can Replace Your Morning Coffee

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Wake Forest chapter.

Breakfast smoothies are totally ideal for a quick and healthy on-the-go meal, but are kind of a pain in the ass if you are an avid coffee drinker. The taste of a fruit smoothie is ruined when interrupted by a sip of hot coffee, and no one wants to deal with multiple to-go cups when you only have five minutes left to get to class.

Luckily there is a simple solution that allows you to enjoy a smoothie for breakfast without giving up your coffee addiction (not that you really could anyway). The coffee banana protein smoothie serves as both a filling meal and energizing drink. And the best part? There are only three ingredients.

Easy

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 1 minutes
Total Time: 6 minutes

Servings: 1

Ingredients:
1 frozen peeled and sliced banana
1 cup cold black coffee
1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder

Directions:

1. Brew coffee and let cool. Highly recommend sticking your coffee in the freezer for a few minutes or buying instant iced coffee.

2. Place banana, coffee, and protein powder together in blender.

3. Blend together and pour into glass or to-go cup.

Voilà, your mornings have never been easier (or tastier).

Pro Tip: If you forgot to put your banana in the freezer overnight, add ice so that your smoothie isn’t lukewarm. To avoid this situation entirely, peel a bunch of bananas all at once and place them on a plate to keep in the freezer.
