Tired of eating the same, boring turkey sandwich for lunch everyday? Too exhausted and overworked to put effort into coming up with new and interesting sandwich combinations? All Northwestern students need some lunchtime inspiration every once in a while to liven up the middle of the week. Here are some creative sandwich alternatives to mix into your midday-meal routine. They aren’t exactly Mom’s homemade sandwiches, but they should subdue your cravings for another month.

Mexican Wrap

Total time: 5-10 minutes (depending on how long the sandwich line is)
Servings: 1

Ingredients:
Tomato Wrap
Balsamic vinaigrette
A handful of shredded mozzarella cheese
Corn and bean salsa
Jalapenos
Tomatoes

Directions:

  1. Drizzle balsamic vinaigrette on the tomato tortilla.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients.
  3. Roll it up and ask the person at the sandwich station to grill your wrap on the Panini maker.
  4. Cut and enjoy!

Italian Sub
 Total time: 5-10 minutes (depending on how long the sandwich line is)

Servings: 1

Ingredients:
Sub bread
Italian dressing
Two slices of Provolone cheese
Lettuce
Onion
Tomato
Roast Beef
Salami
Pepperoni

Directions:

  1. Slice the bread in half.
  2. Add Italian dressing to both halves of bread.
  3. Add two slices of cheese to one piece of bread.
  4. Add the meat, followed by the veggies.
  5. Ask the person at the sandwich station to grill your sandwich on the Panini maker.
  6. Slice in two and enjoy with some french fries.

Not-your-average Ham and Cheese
 

Total time: 5-10 minutes (depending on how long the sandwich line is)
Servings: 1

Ingredients:
Two slices of sourdough bread
Dijon Mustard
Two slices of Swiss cheese
Ham
Sliced cucumber

Directions:

  1. Spread Dijon mustard evenly on both pieces of bread.
  2. Add two slices of Swiss cheese to one piece of bread.
  3. Add the ham and the cucumber.
  4. Ask the person at the sandwich station to grill your sandwich on the Panini maker.
  5. Cut and enjoy this Parisian classic

 

Turkey Rueben

Total time: 5-10 minutes (depending on how long the sandwich line is)
Servings: 1 

Ingredients:
Two slices of rye bread
Dijon mustard or Thousand Island dressing
Two slices of swiss cheese
Turkey
Sauerkraut (optional)

Directions

  1. Spread your dressing of choice evenly onto both slices of bread.
  2. Add two slices of Swiss cheese to one side of the bread.
  3. Add the turkey and sauerkraut (if that’s your jam).
  4. Ask the person at the sandwich station to grill your sandwich on the Panini maker.
  5. Slice and enjoy!

For the Health-Conscious

Two slices of wheat bread
Two slices of provolone cheese
Hummus
Carrots
Lettuce
Banana Peppers
Mixed veggies

Directions:
