I didn’t think it were possible to make tater tots more perfect but thanks to the internet recipe gods I have learned otherwise. Stuff gooey mozz to any dish and you will probably come up with something magical, tots included. I don’t know about you, but I had 3 unfinished bags of frozen tots lingering in my freezer and this recipe was the perfect fix.

SpoonTip: Make sure your tot balls are firm from a few minutes in the fridge or freezer before you try frying them or else they will fall apart. Also, when making your nest, then bombs, make sure to squeeze them tightly to ensure no extra liquid is present that may cause them to crumble apart in the frying process.

Mozzarella Stuffed Tater Tots

    Ingredients

  • 1 pound frozen Tater Tots
  • 12-15 mini mozzarella balls
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Marinara sauce for dipping

  • Step 1

    Microwave frozen tots until soft (about 4 minutes).

  • Step 2

    Mash with whisk until all tots are broken apart.

  • Step 3

    Mix together tots, eggs, flour, onion, salt, pepper, garlic powder.

  • Step 4

    Make nests of mixture and drop in a mozzarella ball. Cover up with more mixture. Squeeze them tightly to remove excess liquid.

  • Step 5

    Repeat 12 times or until you run out of tot mix. Then, roll in breadcrumbs and freeze for until firm.

  • Step 6

    Fry in 350°F vegetable oil until golden brown. Be careful to not agitate balls until done or they may fall apart.

  • Step 7

    Serve with your favorite marinara sauce. Enjoy.
