Winters in my home state of Pennsylvania are always so cold. And yet the fresh snow on the ground makes it irresistible to go outside and play in the snow. One time when my sister and I returned from an afternoon of sledding, we found our house empty of hot chocolate. My mother quickly fixed this by whipping up her homemade hot lemonade recipe, saving the day.

And real talk? This recipe made me never want to drink lemonade cold again. It's a combination of tea and lemonade so great, it would make Beyoncé herself proud to sip on.

  • Step 1

Assemble the water, lemon, and sugar. Pour the water into a pot and heat it up at medium heat. You want it to be warm, but not boiling. If it starts to bubble, turn the temperature down.

  • Step 2

After 4 minutes, pour in the sugar and lemon juice. Stir the mixture together until the sugar dissolves into the water. I like to taste the lemonade at this point and adjust the sugar and lemon slightly to my personal taste – but be careful not to burn your tongue!

  • Step 3

Keep stirring for another 6 minutes until the pot is steaming, taking care to make sure that it's not bubbling or coming to a boil. Once it's ready, turn off your stovetop and pour the hot lemonade into mugs. Serve immediately and enjoy!
