It’s 4th of July and we’re trynna be festive. How do we do that? Obviously by infusing vodka with Sour Patch Watermelon and making actual shot glasses OUT OF WATERMELON. This is not a drill, folks.
I stayed up hours on end trying to figure out how to cut some H2O-melon into shot glasses. Hint: It’s not with a 1/2 a watermelon. It’s with 1/4. I learned the hard way.
This recipe is slightly more involved than our honey jalapeño margarita (#tbt), but talk about some epic shots, yo.
Happy 4th of July, people. Cheerz.
Disclaimer: I didn’t mean to dress like a watermelon, but yolo.
Sour Patch Watermelon Shots
- Prep Time:10 minutes
- Cook Time:3 hours (or overnight)
- Total Time:3 hours-overnight
- 1 bag Sour Patch Watermelon
- 1 bottle vodka
- 1/4 watermelon
- 1 machete

Place your 1/4 watermelon on its side and cut off the ends. #justthetip
Spoon Tip: Def check out 9th Avenue if you’re looking for a quality melon. My girl at 39th & 9th will hook you up.
Cut off the curved side of the watermelon to create a rigid end. Then trim off the remaining green skin, removing as much rind as possible. #byefelicia
Spoon Tip: Don’t cut off your finger with your machete.
Cut the meaty watermelon slab hot dog (or long) ways to create 2 chunkz. Then cut those bad boys hamburger (or short) ways. And again, creating 8 shot glasses. Real thick.
Take your lil’ watermelon guy and, using a teeny tiny spoon (we used a 1/4 teaspoon), scoop out small bits of watermelon, creating a perfect vessel for your infused vodka.
Spoon Tip: Chill your watermelon for easier scooping. Oops.
Freeze your watermelon shot glasses for about 3 hours, or until you’re ready to drank.
Shake your Sour Patch Watermelon bag real hard. Shake weight, yo.
Eat a few candies.
Put 1-2 handfuls of candy into your hipster ass mason jar. Fill with vodka. Party.
Chill yo’ vodka infusion for at least 3 hours. We recommend overnight, but I’m impatient.
Eat the rest of the candies. Then, take the leftover sugar at the bottom of the bag and add some salt to it.
Coat your frozen watermelon shot glasses in the sugar-salt mixture. Legit AF.
Spoon a lil’ vodka into your shot glass.
Put some of your sugar-salt mixture on your hand and have a Sour Patch Watermelon ready as a chaser.
Bottoms up, fools.
Take a little bite of watermelon and cue your victory dance.
Relish in your success. A+.
Shots for everyone.
