If you're feeling a bit slow or heavy after the holidays and all the home-cooked meals, you're not the only one. Especially with school just starting up, it takes some time to get accustomed to your daily routine again. What better way to help you get started than to incorporate some easy steps to boost your metabolism, and help you (still) digest all the holiday food?

These five detox routines will help you boost your metabolism and help you get back on track, whether you are still on the path to fulfill that New Year's Resolution or are looking for ways to be healthier and more productive this year.

1. Lemon Water

Ditch the coffee, stock up on those lemons and squeeze them into a nice cup of warm water in the morning. Remember that the water shouldn't be too hot or too cold, as it will shock your system and your body is just waking up. Lemon water is healthy and good for you in many ways, but it mainly cleanses your digestive system and gets your metabolism on point, preparing it for the long day ahead.

2. Green Tea

Don't we all love a little green tea? Not only does it have antioxidants that improve our overall health, but it also includes other minerals (like catechins and EGCG) that help to boost metabolism. The trick with green tea is to make sure to consume more than one cup a day in order for it to produce the effect of a faster metabolism. Hot or cold, it's a great alternative to fill in that water bottle each day.

3. Eggs

Eggs are not only your ultimate power food, but they also really help getting that metabolism going. Their protein will make sure that you feel satisfied and full and that you're burning calories as you go about your day. The great thing about eggs is that you can prepare them in any way and they still do their job.

4. Water

I'm assuming there is not a lot of surprise here, as water is most likely the best and most natural thing your body requires. Drink enough water, and keep that metabolism humming along throughout the day. The best is to probably carry a water bottle around, drink a lot, and let that water detox your body.

5. Veggies, Veggies, Veggies

salad, broccoli, pepper, cabbage, tomato, cucumber, carrot, vegetable

Nothing is better for your body to detox and to boost that metabolism than vegetables. Zinc, iron, and chromium are just a few of the minerals that vegetables contain that will cure your body of whatever bad stuff is making you feel so large and heavy. For the best outcome, you can steam your vegetables to maximize nutrients and their powerful effects

Remember that a faster metabolism helps you with digestion and helps burn off fat. By taking smalls steps in your daily routine to cleanse your body and to boost that metabolism, you are set and ready for all that holiday feasting.
