What’s Going on With IHOP… or Should I Say IHOb?

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at WSU chapter.

At the beginning of this month, IHOP tweeted that they were changing their name from IHOP to IHOb. On June 11th, they released what the ‘b’ stood for. For those that guessed breakfast, brunch, bacon, or any of the other possibilities out on the internet; you learned that it stood for ‘burgers’. IHOP went from being the International House of Pancakes to the International House of Burgers.

Due to their marketing campaign for IHOb, they were trending on Twitter across the whole world. People were definitely shocked by their name change and had lots of opinions about it. Some thought it was a good strategy on IHOP’s part, while some believed it was outrageous. Other food chains such as Burger King and Wendy’s have also publicly voiced their opinions on this matter.

As of right now, IHOb is more of a meme on Twitter with everyone posting about it. However, with all the talk that is going on, some are bound to get curious. Some are saying their burgers are actually pretty good.

Although IHOP is not going to be IHOb forever, many are still upset with their temporary name change. It’s all people are talking about which is their goal. Although you may not like the name ‘IHOb’, the name is definitely catching your attention. But does it catch it enough for you to go try one of their burgers?

My name is Gianna and I am a senior at Washington State University. I am very passionate about food and travelling. I'd like to say I am a very adventurous person. On my free time, I like to discover new restaurants to try and a fun fact about myself is that I have been to 13 different countries; which has helped expand my horizons. Besides from food, I like to draw, hang out with friends, go to concerts, etc.
