Now if you watch Mad Men you know, these characters drink almost as much as they breathe. Don’t we all wish we could pop bottles at 11 am on a work day? This guide is intended to connect you to your spirit Mad Men character, based solely on alcohol preference. Makes sense, right?
Old Fashioned: Don Draper
Don lives, breathes, and drinks Old Fashioneds. This drink consists of either bourbon or rye whiskey, a dash of bitters, one sugar cube, and a splash of water. This drink is commonly served on ice and garnished with either an orange or a cherry, but Don usually skips the garnishes and gets straight to the whiskey.
Martini: Roger Sterling
Roger’s go to liquor is vodka. When he’s in the office he settles for Stoli on ice. At any other hour of the day Roger can be found drinking a vodka Martini or Gibson. These two drinks are made of vodka and vermouth. The difference between them is that Martinis are garnished with olives, and Gibsons are garnished with onions. Either way, if vodka is your drink, Roger is your guy.
Red Wine: Peggy Olson
Like red wine, Peggy gets better with time. She starts out as a shy secretary and turns into a badass that can keep up with the men that dominate the advertising industry. No matter what red wine you prefer, Pinot Noir, Merlot, or Cabernet Sauvignon, you are a strong independent woman like Peggy. Slay.
Champagne: Betty Draper
Bubbly, sweet, and easy to drink. If your go to drink is Champagne, Betty Draper is the character for you. Champagne is the perfect drink for celebrating, but Betty steps her game up and drinks it on the reg. Which is smart because we should all be drinking champagne on the reg…right? Plus, who doesn’t wanna look as flawless as Betty looks when she’s sippin’ on some bubbly.
Gin Gimlet: Joan Holloway
If there is ever a hair out of line, Joan would be the first to know. Sweet with a kick, a gin Gimlet consists of gin, simple syrup, and lime juice. It may be sweeter than most cocktails but don’t let it deceive you. Just like Joan, this drink looks innocent, but is all business. If you like to take control, and run the show, all while maintaining perfect etiquette, you’re just like Joan and this is your drink.
Whiskey Neat: Pete Campbell
Pete is straight forward and down to business, just like his favorite drink: the whisky neat. Even though it sounds fancy, it’s just whiskey in glass. No messing around. If you like your drink straight-no-chaser, then you and Pete have a lot in common.
