The 10 Best Vegan Finds Near Burlington, VT

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UVM chapter.

Burlington, Vermont is a haven for vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike! There are tons of options that you can find, here are some of my favorites!

The Crunchwrap Supreme at Pingala Cafe

Calling all Taco Bell fans, this one is for you! Pingala Cafe was featured on Guy Fieri’s iconic “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives” and offers a completely vegan menu. Not only will you find flavorful wraps, fresh baked goods, and fun smoothies, but also their most famous creation: the Crunchwrap Supreme. It’s filled to the brim with chickpea mash, brown rice, beans, cashew queso, and spices. Then, the wrap is sandwiched and toasted on the panini press. What more could you ask for?

Pingala Cafe is open for sit-down dining (first-come, first-serve) or takeout.

Vegan Bagels & Cream Cheese at Willow’s Bagels

Every vegan looks for a great bagel once in awhile. Willow’s has the best bagels in Burlington, and a whole host of vegan cream cheeses to choose from. My favorite combo is an everything bagel with vegan-scallion chive cream cheese. Not the fan of bagels? Willow’s also offers vegan “pup-tarts,” muffins, and cinnamon rolls.

Willow’s Bagels is open for takeout seven days a week!

Cinnamon Rolls at Sweet Alchemy Bakery & Cafe

Sweet Alchemy Bakery is located in Essex Junction, but many of their baked goods can be found at City Market and neighborhood stores. Pre-COVID, I loved sitting in their quaint cafe and catching up on homework. Now, I can order their baked goods to enjoy from the comfort of my home. You should certainly try their cinnamon rolls- but their cupcakes come at a close second.

Sweet Alchemy Bakery & Cafe is open for takeout only.

Seitan Chickpea Masala at City Market

The City Market hot bar is an iconic part of their business model, but COVID pressures forced them to switch to a takeout-only model. Luckily, you can still find their seitan chickpea masala occasionally, as well as their paradise wrap (with seitan smothered in peanut-y goodness) in the pre-packaged meal section.

The Veggie Pizza w/ Vegan Cheese at Folino’s Pizza

Vegan pizza- in Burlington? Maybe I’m impartial to Folino’s, but I think that they still make a killer vegan pizza. The cashew cheese is made in-house and covers a bed of sweet potato, sliced tomato, red onion, and spinach with a balsamic drizzle. Next, the pizza is roasted to perfection in their oven, sliced, and served. You literally can’t go wrong (you could, instead, go even more right with the addition of garlic and buffalo cauliflower).

Folino’s in Shelburne and Burlington both offer limited sit-down service (outdoors) and takeout.

Vegan Ravioli at Revolution Kitchen

Revolution Kitchen is perhaps one of the best-known vegan places in Burlington- and for good reason. Their food is absolutely incredible, flavorful, and sometimes hard-to-believe it’s plant-based. Although some of their offerings contain dairy, most of their menu is vegan. My favorite is their seasonal ravioli specials or their seitan picatta.

Revolution Kitchen offers limited outdoor seating.

Vegan Apple Cider Donuts at Conscious Eatz

Conscious Eatz may be the newest vegan food venue in the area, but it is certainly making a big splash. Their pop-ups at Switchback Brewery and Yoga Six, as well as regular hours on Clark St. downtown, have attracted crowds of both plant-based and non-plant-based folx. I recommend their apple cider donuts, but really anything on the menu is worthy of recognition.

Buddha’s Sesame Mock “Beef” at A Single Pebble

A Single Pebble offers a complete menu of Asian-inspired dishes, many of which can be made vegan/vegetarian. I recommend their street noodle dishes or their Buddha’s Sesame Mock “Beef” for a wholesome dinner option!

A Single Pebble is offering takeout and occasional pop-ups with their food truck. Follow them on social media to stay updated!

Dark Chocolate Sorbet at Shy Guy Gelato

Shy Guy is known for their small-batch gelato and sorbet. It’s not uncommon that they sell out even a few hours after opening. The best idea is to get there ASAP (after checking their flavors list) so you can pack a pint for the ride home.

Maple Sourdough Donuts from Miss Weinerz

Can you ever have too many maple donuts from Miss Weinerz? Probably not. They’re a Burlington classic and something ever vegan should try when they’re in town. You can find them at City Market or order directly from their website.
